2016 Industry Engagement survey
Hi all,
It's that time of the year again when all the airlines are running their employee engagement surveys. Without doubt the results will again be tampered to support management bonuses and KPIs. For the 5th year, the ALAEA is running our multi employer engagement survey so we can compare them with each other. If you could please take 5-10 minutes by following this link and completing the only industry wide employee survey. Unlike the company ones, your identity remains confidential so feel free to tell it like it really is. Good job guys. Between the Pilots, LAMEs and FAs we have over 500 responses in less than 24 hours. Needing 1000 to make the results legitimate, hoping for more than that.
Note that last year saw Qantas achieve their highest result over the 4 years with 37% and Virgin their worst at 54%. Will be interesting to see if that gap closes further. |
Over 800 responses now so well done all. I've had a quick scan through the submissions and they will be interesting.
One major airline seems to be falling fast from their previous respectable levels whilst we have a new contender who looks like posting the lowest engagement score ever seen...... |
Qantaslink??? Haven't checked them responses yet but I'd be surprised if they match the other mob who appear to have the wooden spoon in the bag.
|
Are there results from previous years to compare or only last year?
If there are others could you please post. Thanks |

When will this years result be published?
|
One major airline seems to be falling fast from their previous respectable levels... Maybe they can even drop below the QF 37.21% this year...:D |
I'm not a gambling man, but I'll put money on it!
$425 million to be precise! :E |
BUT BUT I thought JB was the messiah and we all wished he got the gig at QF?!?! Good luck to all VAH staff as you finally have to face reality and the old days of throwing money away to keep up the happy family facade come to an end.

Guys we've just hit the 1000 response mark in 3 days which is fantastic. They are now coming in much slower though as expected beyond the initial flurry. Normally keep it open for 2 months but may be a bit shorter this year so we can announce the results.
Virgin falling??? well yes they have every year, I am expecting that to be the case again. Not sure if they can dip to the Qantas levels, they are pretty low. A lot of the mid sized companies have not yet reached the threshold to measure engagement. Places like Network, Alliance, Cathay (in Aus), RFDS and Airservices. Particularly love to see more input here. |
Mods: can this be given a sticky please? I believe this is the only true survey anywhere in the industry.
|
Did get a sticky in previous years.........hope the mods read.
Done! Tail Wheel |
Ok all. Just hit 1350 responses. Would like to get results done early this year rather than leave up for several months....Cathay, Network and Airservices Australia just under the qualification mark.......
|
Interesting just checking the results. For better or worse, Virgin and Qantas are running neck and neck.....
|
I've closed the survey off.....results to come soon.

Hi Ppruners,
Thank you to all who took the time to contribute to our annual staff engagement survey. In just over a week we received over 1500 responses from members and others working in Aviation in our region. As always there were substantial contributions from Pilots and Flight Attendants who linked in via the social media channels. Our good friends in the Philippines were active as always and new contact was made with those working in New Guinea who suspected that they could break the all-time low record for employee engagement. They were correct and registered a stunning 0.66% across all the questions where they were asked to rate their management. Qantas continued to record marginal rises but is yet to ever move out of the 30’s in any of the 5 years the survey has been conducted. A big move came from their major competitor, Virgin who plummeted nearly 13 points to finish a short half head in front of the Kangaroo. Virgin’s employee engagement has steadily declined from over 75% five years ago to just over 40% now. Jetstar continued to impress as the major Australian airline you don’t want to work for whilst Emirates workers in Australia continue to express their disappointment. For 5 years in the helicopter sector, Bristow and CHC have jostled within the 40-60% bracket. Rex, Alliance, Network and KORR staff appear increasingly frustrated however Tiger staff are slowly viewing their company in better light. I thank the many members and others working for smaller airlines and MROs who completed the survey, in many cases there were only a handful of contributions received and the thresholds for measurement not met. Anyone working at a smaller company who’d like to use our survey internally can contact us via our office and we would be more than happy to assist. See attachment for final results. Cheers Steve Purvinas |
