Cebu Pacific to have massive impact on Tasman
if they indeed do an Emirates & extend their flights into Australia to New Zealand as rumoured.
Unlike EK, they are very low cost & with 436 seats on their A333's, their cost per seat will be very low. Good for New Zealand tourism, but maybe bad for NZ, VA etc. Fares to ZQN have got very expensive this year. Unfortunately an A333 can't get into ZQN. |
Do they have 5th freedom rights on the Tasman? Unlikely.
|
Fresh air talks in Wellington between the Philippines and New Zealand on March 6 have paved the way for expanding traffic rights and increasing the number of seats between the two countries.
According to Carmelo Arcilla, Executive Director of the Civil Aeronautics Board, the two countries agreed to increase traffic rights for each country from the current 3 flights per week up to 21 flights each per week. The new agreement also includes fifth freedom rights, which is permission to fly passengers to a third country from the country in which the air agreement exists. Now airlines from New Zealand may fly to the Philippines, pick up passengers and continue on to China. And for the first time Philippine carriers can land in New Zealand, pick up passengers and carry them on to Australia. |
WHAT???
Isn't there already enough pressure on Qantas? Maybe CX could start flying across as well, that would certainly keep those Kiwi commuters happy... |

436 in an A330-300?
Do you have to pay for the shoe-horn that wedges you into your seat? |
Mmmmmmm, better widen the runways and taxyways as well as they have a habit of leaving the hard surface....

Probably as slick as this one! :ugh: |
Ratpoison, that is a complete and utter furphy. I'm surprised you fell for it. :=

I see there is a boomgate in the background, must be standard procedure to close the road during ops. Meaning they are possibly very constrained for rwy length on that field, could actually be very good flying into a difficult strip. Do ATR 72's have the same short field capabilities, of , say, a Dash 8-200? Not that any of this bears any relevance to trans-Tasman ops, of course.

think u can get 440Y in a 333. wonder what happened to extra 4 seats ?
if they are $2 cheaper people Will fly them. with so many seats they could give away 100 per flight and still make money |
Normally around 50' over the threshold if you are legally landing on a destination Airport.......that's not even 15' and he's no where near the threshold yet!!
Cowboy, one day he will misjudge and drag all the fence along the runway with him!! Serve him right too. :D |
You would have to pay me to travel with that seating density. 180 in an A320 for a couple of hours is just about doable, pay extra for an exit or front row seat and three or four hours is tolerable.
Eight hours of being crammed in like sardines would be a nightmare for an average sized Aussie, never mind some of the XXXL shirt buyers. That seating configuration is meant for Philippine workers traveling to and from the Middle East who weigh 60kgs, are very price sensitive and don't mind being packed in. I'm sure the backpackers won't mind if it's cheap but unless they offer some form of premium class I doubt there'd be many repeat customers. |
plenty will do it for 3 hours to nz + kiwis r tighter than australians
|
how many filipino migrant workers live in nz?
|
Haven't Cebu Pacific been banned in the EU?
BNE320 From what I understand Jetstar have been struggling in NZ because kiwis have been willing to part with more cash for the better service they receive on Air NZ |
no everyone wants cheap which is why qf in so.much trouble
|
Geeez Bloggs, you go and spoil all my fun. I bet you were always the naughty little boy that pulled down the pants of someone blowing out the candles on the birthday cake! :p
|
Kev2002 spot on,
BNE A320, pop over to AKL some time, pass through security on a monday morning, and spend 15 minutes observing were all the suits go!! 95% up the stairs to Air New Zealand!! Most of the suits wont touch the Jetstar product, and they WILL pay more to fly Air New Zealand!! |
according to google the eu ban was lifted in april

Serve him right too You are correct, of course, but I'm wondering if that photo doesn't show the whole story, as eye-catching as it is. And yes, doesn't that fence look rather freshly painted:ok: |
