I wonder if the YVR services announced today are dipping the toe in the water to see how the loads pan out. If they go well then that could assist in the business case to being forward the twins on hold.

Wishful thinking probably but along with clearing the decks with the aircraft write downs I detect that QF is starting to get a little more adventurous than they have been for the last six years.

I heard they have contracted Rolf Harris, with kids dressed in white again and Rolf singing "two little boys ........."

It seems as though a giant has woken from its slumber. I hope for the sake of everyone still at Qantas that this initiative (YVR supps) is the start of better times. It looks like something very positive for a change. :D

Other rumour doing the rounds presently is Jetstar starting to encroach on the previously untouchable (due apparently to contractural requirements stipulated by the mining companies).

YCHK (Christmas Creek) allegedly commencing soon.

No more major point of difference in perceived safety perhaps?

At least Mainline has been the most on time Major 5 years running so that is still a plus in our favour...

The rumour is Twiggy is insisting on at least a 180 seater, so the A321 is on the cards.

As Qantas retreats.. from the news clips today

Air New Zealand plans to boost its service on North American routes next year, using aircraft capacity freed up by Boeing 787 deliveries.

The carrier will add a seasonal third daily flight to its Auckland-Los Angeles route, flying Boeing 777-200ERs. The arrival of 787-9s and their introduction on existing routes gives Air New Zealand flexibility to increase frequencies or add new routes with its other aircraft types.

The airline typically operates newer 777-300ERs on its Los Angeles flights, although the -200ERs are undergoing a refurbishment program to give them a similar cabin product.

The third daily Los Angeles flight will be operated between April and October, increasing capacity on the route by 20%. Air New Zealand is also increasing its seasonal flights on its Vancouver route, which will boost capacity by 10%.

Meanwhile, the carrier has retired its last 747-400. Its final flight departed San Francisco for Auckland Sept. 10. This aircraft has been sold to a company that intends to lease it out to another airline customer, Air New Zealand says.

The carrier’s 747-400 fleet numbered eight aircraft at one point. The second-to-last aircraft left the fleet on July 16, and was sold to a California-based buyer. The final two 747-400s were used on the San Francisco route, and have been replaced by two leased 777-300ERs.

Funny that the network guys have been boasting about getting new A320s for about a year now.

The new rumour doing the rounds amongst international cabin crew is that early next year a new and innovative service in economy for the premium airline, qantas, begins. Food will no longer be served on trays handed to punters. The hot meal, in foil, will be placed on their fold down tray with a salad and cutlery offered to pax. This novel idea has never been trialled before on a premium airline but as AJ and other staff ex the orange cancer will attest to has been well received in jetstar for years... and Jesus wept.

It's the worst international service seen in quite some time but clearly the customers were listened to.

I think some of these recent "positive" announcements, point to Qantas shoring up its position Internationally,on routes were there is no competition from LCCs, eg Air Asia X.
Air Asia X tried the ultra long haul for a while KL to London, admittedly wrong aircraft, but they got badly burnt, and now seem to have gone back to the 7-10 hr long haul flights around the asia pacific.
Qantas International is really going to struggle on their remaining Asia Pacific routes up against Air Asia X from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, Scoot and now Cebu Pacific.
So perhaps the days of Qantas flights to Manila,Jakarta etc may be numbered, and of course we know who will get those routes!

You have just ruined my day. I wonder how the Canadians and Australians (particularly the high value punters that travel in economy) will react to the new service. If we get any complaints we will have to reply with "but this is what you told Qantas this is how you want to be served". I think we may have a huge drop in customer satisfaction responses which may impact on the KPIs of a few ground managers. Unless these get changed before the new service. How cynical of me. Naturally all the blame will be on the cabin crew for failing to deliver the new service.
Now I have to figure out how to hand a hot meal to a punter sitting in the window seat without burning my hand, let alone his/hers. If we have to stretch and place it on his tray I can see a few issues with OHS. There goes another KPI for the managers.

Is there any change planned for Business class?
Just around the corner perhaps?

Maybe rename it Starclass?
