1. Qantas staff are passionate about the airline they want it to prosper.
2. Qantas staff despise management. 3. Net promoter score and on time performance are at very high levels because of point 1 and despite point 2. MC |
NONE OF THEM HAVE THE FAINTEST IDEA ABOUT AIRLINE OPERATIONS OUTSIDE THE 'EASY' BITS LIKE LOUNGES AND FANCY SEATS. 2. Qantas staff despise management. I know by experience that Qantas is in the same management sh!t hole. |

Qantas crew should be dressed as if they were staffing a 5 star restaurant not as if they were working the local burger bar. Jetstar is a commodity brand, they should appear functional before anything else. Let them wear the equivalent of jeans and T shirt, no problem. But Qantas should be looking damn elegant and by transferrence making their customers feel part of that elegance. To me nothing represents the fundamental misunderstanding of the difference between QF and JQ as the current uniforms. Whilst the uniforms are very obvious the same type of thinking pervades every aspect of the business and that is the core of the problem. |

I have had the opportunity to meet both Clifford & Joyce seperately. On each occasion I have spoken to them for over 45 minutes. It is my belief whilst ever they are running the QF group we (collectively as staff) are stuffed. It is my belief Clifford has passed his used by date. I am not prepared to comment on our conversation except to say it is my opinion he does not understand how to run an airline. It is also my belief that by the time the message has been filtered from the shop floor thru various levels of management that the message clifford receives is the staff are all happy. It is my belief Clifford does not understand the needs of the passengers or staff. Again the same for Joyce. I am not prepared to discuss the conversation except to say it is my belief his comment of the staff support him and senior management to be false. MC |
Romulus.
I JQ manager recently told me that Joyce (in that individuals opinion) did a great job running JQ. But, In that individuals opinion Joyce is totally out if his league running the Qantas group. Many would probably agree with that observation. MC. |
Agree MC, their management skills start and end with accountancy principles. When they are cruising in calm waters they are percieved to be doing well and hire more managers like themselves to make progress while everything is good, but once they steer into a bit of turbulence all they know is to start jettisoning the load starting from the bottom. They don't even know what capsizing from being top heavy means as it's not taught in the modern schools of management for obvious reasons.
These people think they can solve problems by simply throwing more managers at it. |
We currently have problems with the"management" in Washington DC. They are making unrealistic claims about Ukraine. Obviously wnet to the same management school as Joyce and Clifford.
|
MC: Very interesting.
Your comment regarding staff support of Joyce, can I ask you to clarify? Are you saying the staff DONT support him and he knows it, or that he believes the staff DO support him? It's fascinating to hear from someone who actually knows. I admire you for the ability to spend 45 minutes with either of them and not have the Police involved:) |

I've provided some detail to Steve P. I'll let Steve decide how he wants to run with it. |
Clifford was past his 'use by date' at Rio Tinto....
|
The major issue is not with Alan it is with Group Management Committee (GMC) ie: Alan's direct reports (note how many are ex- Ansett. Refugees) There is no flow of information or direction to the troops on the floor, staff are left to interpret their role in Alan 's strategy. GMC are rarely seen.
The Emperor's new clothes springs to mind!!! |
I need to know what Alan's strategy is.
I've worked for Qantas over 28 years. Explain it to me please. |
That's the point, Lyell and Simon should be explaining the strategy.... I haven't seen or heard from Simon for months ...does he still work there...??

ALAEA Fed Sec - can you comment on the this?
Appears what you stated regarding the four engines was incorrect. Were you? |
It is not for me to explain it, as I only have my own interpretation, same as any Exec below GMC. Nobody knows but Alan and what he has told his direct reports.

I thought it unusual that Jayne Hrdlicka the Jetstar Group CEO was at the senate inquiry. After all, it was about the future of QANTAS and the QSA. Where was Hickey & Strambie? MC. |
Good point MC

This could explain Hrdlicka's presence.

Alan Joyce believes the legacy airline model is essentially broken,
hence his support of the various incarnations of Jetstar! Re the GMC, Maybe Alan should do as Rob Fyfe did, and actually gets out of his bubble, and talk to some front line staff for a change! |
