Qantas to Axe 100 Senior Execs
Sometime around Wednesday or Thursday an anouncement will be made regarding the axing of 100 senior Qantas executives.
AJ and his team have been busy Qantas to axe top execs: report |
Cox is leading the way.

Dixons Escape
Dixon escaped with his golden handshake.
Executive payouts are under scrutiny. These trough feeders hopefully will not leave with the same obscene package |
speaking from the corporate world...every now and then, there is the need for an enema....this recession/financial crisis is just that....now, hopefully with the expected requirement for all executive pay > 1 year's base salary (or whatever) to be shareholder approved...this is only a good thing. I've been to a few AGMs where the mum-and-dad shareholders almost had a heart attack when they read the remuneration note and the chairman had to stand there and explain why one person should get paid x% of the total net profit for the year :=

Hopefully Kumar is on the list.

Please God, Amen.

New Blood
For any business to move forward it requires new blood and new ideas.Qantas in particular has been crying out for a new direction for about five years. Many stayed too long because it was easy money where no new ideas were required
|
New blood & new ideas have been the cause of the problems in QF.:ugh::ugh::ugh:
There is no industry knowledge with these lot, just random swipes at departmental budgets, that need the funds to make the company function well. All in an effort to support the bonus driven culture. Not good for anyone except the short term ladder climber. |
Only 100 Deadwood Execs
I cannot believe that Qantas can only find 100 Execs that can be declared 'deadwood'. I would have thought most of the Execs could be escorted out of their offices by security and the result would not impact on the operation. The cost savings just in bonuses would be substantial.

Jetstar; the potential spin-off of frequent Flyer; separate company for aircraft ownership/lease; potential spin-off of freight; potential semi-autonomous MRO; spin-off of Airports. All those ideas are recent, and worth looking at. Looks like evolutionary change can work. |
Re Read My Post
The ideas at Jet*are new.
Management is new at Jet* For godsake Jet* is new.How old is it? Five years? In a nother few years it will be time for Jet* to experience mangement renewal. Qantas management have been in place for ten bloody years.Too bloody long. Where in my post does it say that new ideas have been the cause of QF problems.? The" LACK" of new ideas and management have caused the problems. |
PZ,
Renewal is not a bad idea but who says that an 'old' management can't have bright ideas? Also, at times of so-called renewal, valuable corporate memory is purged at the same time. So often many of us have seen whizz-kids come along in the guise of renewal to try to reinvent the wheel only to find that what they are setting out to do may have been examined ten years previously only to find that it was unworkable. Old heads are wise heads so until you get older and wiser, maybe you should pull yer had in! Some of the best things to have happened at Qantas and other iconic Australian companies have been the product of the minds of the old and wise. Qantas's problems stem mostly from some very intransigent unions. Next? |
Intransigent Unions?
Whenever the company got into trouble due to SARS or 911 the unions were called upon to freeze wages and in some cases reduce manning levels. On each occasion they stepped up to the plate and gave management what they asked for with the promise that the workforce would be rewarded when things improved.
When things did improve Dixon laughed at how naive the unions were to believe in what was promised. Like the current situation employees bore the pain while management gave themselves a payrise. Ken Borough your views and opinions border on the fascist. Not only should you pull your head in you should first pull it out of Malcolm Turnbulls clacker. Qantas now has an opportunity to re invent itself and re establish the traveling public's trust.Qantas hasn't had any wise minds or creative thinkers for the last decade. The airline was taken over by a bunch of morons with no skill set to run an international airline. John "Tubby"Ward and his team were the last management group Qantas had that knew how to run the place efficiently and effectively. The lot that we have had for the last ten years were merely dysfunctional pretenders who were motivated solely by the creation of executive wealth. In this and only this were they successful. The short mens club has been disbanded...a cause for a huge celebration amongst the men and women who are the Qantas family...the shop floor employees |

prunezuess,
I certainly hope you are right as it would see the end of the both the BA and Air NZ/Ansett factions. Morale amongst cabin crew would go through the roof. Too much to hope for me thinks....... |
Here in Engineering, we have fewer peoplethan 5 years ago, yet we have more managers................
Its about time - I just hope the list extends our way................ |
It's common for narcissists in management to add at least one layer of management to insulate themselves from having to deal with the "little people" at the coal face who always pour the cold water of experience on the fantastic schemes the narcissists dream up.
By way of example, could someone please tell me the difference between an "executive general manager", "group general manager" and a plain old "general manager"? |
you are right,
sunfish. when James S took over QF, cabin crew we had about 1/5th of the current managers. since LG took over, her and JB have added several GMs plus another 3 layers of managers including base management at off/onshore bases. QF cabin crew management has increased fivefold and management wages have exploed under LGs rein. 100 senior excecs is by far not enough to clean out the QF mess. One can only recommend to Aj to consult more with the shop floor to move forward.
what is the difference between an excecutive GM,group GM and GM? simple MONEY (and lots of of it) and POWER:yuk: |
