Mission Accomplished

Yep, you have got to hand it to AJ.

The enema has worked beautifully.

Il Duce ,aka JB, aka ex CEO designate has been punted.:D

Now just watch the cards start to tumble.

I just love the way AJ starts the announcement......

........"it is with sadness that I announce that Mr JB etc etc....'

SADNESS ,........yeah right...wasn't April fools day last week !!!

Anyway 36 years ain't a bad innings.Especially a boy from the mail room.

So thats it, nearly all the former EXCO team have been punted in less than 9 months.

Now for retirement, Unlimited P/C trips-confirmed, Unlimited dinners at Rockpool, House redesign by Newsome, New Wardrobe by Morrissey;)

Hows that JQ jingle go again?

AAAAAAHHHHHHH OOOOOOOOO DA DA DA DA x9

Shlonghaul 7th Apr 2009 07:46

Il Duce goes and LG is now Executive Mgr Customer & Marketing :hmm:

John Borghetti’s departure will trigger some changes to senior executive responsibilities. Mr Rob Gurney will be appointed to the Executive Committee in the role of Group Executive – Qantas Airlines, Commercial, as will Ms Lesley Grant as Executive Manager – Customer and Marketing, reporting directly to me.

Lesley Grant was appointed Group General Manager Customer, Product and Service in Qantas Airways in May 2002. Before joining Qantas Airways, Lesley was the Senior Vice President Customer Service at Ansett/Air New Zealand Group. Lesley has been a Director of UNICEF Australia since June 2006 and is a member of the Chief Executive Women organisation.

Teflon

Nothing Sticks to Lesley Grant......but shes got something on someone

Sunfish 7th Apr 2009 09:09

Packrat, I could tell you something, but the women would hunt me down and kill....

the Sisterhood is alive and well, and supports toxic managers along with the good - as long as they are female.

Cost me at least one good female friend who decided to run with that pack.

Members of the sisterhood will, I assume, get an automatic upgrade and an invitation to the Chairmans lounge.

tjc 7th Apr 2009 09:27

Sometimes when things change........they stay very much the same!!!

Now thats something for all of us to think about..........here we go again!!!

The Black Widow

Just google "the black widow".......its frightening !!!!

The Game has changed. The Sisterhood lives.

The Web has been set and wobetide any poor member of the male species that stumbles into the sticky net !!!:(

Qantas 787 7th Apr 2009 10:32

LG would be really happy with the promotion and the pay packet that goes with it.

I have a lot of time for Gurney - good to see he gets a promotion.

So the Operations/Engineering and Product/Sales etc split between Strambi and JB lasted all of a couple of months. Who is next? All of this change at the top is just getting confusing now.

stubby jumbo 8th Apr 2009 00:23

....and another one gone !

.......'just had a call from a mate in EP's saying that Capt Coates has "decided" to return to the line.

Apparently the rest of his direct management "team" have also "decided " to leave.

Flight Training will now report direct into Flight Ops-Capt Wilson.

The much fanfared ( by Dixon, Gregg and Davies on all the news channels) Flight Training business that was set to be the Training hub for Asia is yet another splash in the bowl.

Segmentation is dead.............bring on your "back to basics"/no fuss/no frills/LCC model.

Keg 8th Apr 2009 05:09

That's probably no surprise. If I'd been given the job to 'segment' GFT away from the mainline business and the new boss turned up and said it's all going 180 degrees to the last three years of work I'd probably elect to return to the line also. In fact I wouldn't wait to be pushed!

indamiddle 8th Apr 2009 10:02

a j is a shifty bugger. by giving credit to j b for the "center of excellence' we know that when it gets canned no one in the current management will have to wear any blame

4Greens 8th Apr 2009 22:44

There were regulatory issues in having the Training organisation reporting outside the Chief Pilots area of responsibility.

Dragun 8th Apr 2009 23:22

There's so much negativity on here and bad mouthing current and past execs. Posts saying Dixon was bad, Joyce isn't any better and none of the management do a decent job at any level it seems. There are also lots of posts saying 'Qantas is dead' etc. and predictions that the future for Qantas is bleak.

Given that, I ask this question in all seriousness. For those of you who fit somewhere into the above category and have made posts like this, what would you like to see happen, how would you run things differently and which managers or execs (current/past/potential) would you like to see in the roles to take Qantas into the future?

Rather than just reading doomsday posts, it would be nice to see some preferences and ideas - at least in addition to opinions of the current situation and people running the group.

I'm not making this post to challenge or stir people up - this is a genuine request.

Cheers

packrat 8th Apr 2009 23:36

Ideas

Remove executive bonuses
Provide adequate resources so that employees can do their jobs well
Be inclusive of employees in decision making.
Stop marketing what is undeliverable.
Remove the adversarial management style.
Flatten the mangement pyramid
Fix the sources of customer disatisfaction.
Provide information on the future of mainline.

Executives

Borghetti should stay...Grant should go
Bring back John Menadue!!!!

ampclamp 9th Apr 2009 00:03

dragun

From what I've heard John Borghetti was a decent kind of fellow and hated what some of the clowns had done to engineering. If a boss is doing his job there are some who will inevitably dislike them for the calls they make.
He's pretty obviously upset some here with things said or done but feedback from some who actually know him say different. Both sides can be right.

I've heard that the bloke who took KB's spot is liked and well thought of.

As for AJ at least he's having a good go at a clean out and making some good decions that make sense , the best being de-segmentising where it makes no good sense to do run a seperate unit.

I welcome the day when we operate as a team not as adversaries. If AJ can get that theme into the firm he'll be cast in gold.

People need to enjoy coming to work and not be constantly told how lucky they are to have a job, how expensive they are and have some nasty useless twit nit picking evey move you make and occupying an office on false pretences stealing oxygen. Good riddance to that kind.
Too many at QF add nothing to productivity.

Not all positive dragun but hope I've added some balance.;)

65thunderbird 9th Apr 2009 01:31

The first management position in engineering that should go are the ops
managers.Nobody seems to know what these managers actually do.
It was an appointment by MH for strike breaking.
Either put them back on the tool box or show them the gate.

mrpaxing 12th Apr 2009 03:33

more clean out needed

in the cabin crew department. it looks like the lower ranks in CC management will get the marching orders this coming weeks but that does not fix the problems. Unless AJ gives LG and associates the boot, morale will continue to dive (if thats possible). i was in a slip port last week when JB departure was announcement and the promotion of LG caused nothing but anger and frustration amongst the ranks.:ugh:

packrat 12th Apr 2009 06:34

Attrition

Management will tell you that attrition is good for a business.Somewhere around 15% every 5 years is a figure often quoted.
What they forget is that it applies to management as well. Most in Cabin Services have been there for over 7 years.Time for some fresh faces and a less adversarial style
Fat Boy Slim and Co. have overstayed their welcome.Lets hope the rumours regarding imminent departures are true

OCCR 12th Apr 2009 07:25

Now that LG has "firmed" her position no one will get the boot!
We are in this for the long run! persevere ......at least we have a job!

stubby jumbo 12th Apr 2009 08:26

.......agree OCCR.

The Black Widow will now spin the tightest ,stickiest ( :hmm:) web known to man( or women)

Miss Piggy, Tarantula , Boy Wonder, the Terminator and Fat Boy Slim have not been able to wipe the smile of their dials since the announcement.

We need to be thankful though that the chief "APA architect" and his band of looters have left the QCA bunker . Time to move on.

Not too much longer to wait. We have jobs.

My modus operandi now is.........."keep your head down, nose clean and smile at the punters ( even the blokes !) & and every dog has its day"

The only problem is ....once the Cabin Crew Management team are punted ........Woolies will probably have mechanised "shelf packers":E
