The insanity of traffic sometimes leads me to think I was insane to transfer....
I hear that West Radar does that to people... :E

westausatc.... Yes, they are a lot of fun to fly. 13mins to FL390 without even trying. The A330 is nowhere near as much fun!

737 good, 767 better, but give me a 744 any day!:)

Qantas problems in Perth again

Surely they could have applied for a curfew exemption.

747 Classic again????

Quokka,

fortunately, doing doggos and weekends now so experiencing some of the quieter shifts - ahhh! the bliss! Not so much nuttiness!

Veruka,

Have a mate who flies the 76 - loves the aircraft. Not so enamored with GD and the crew but loves the aircraft.

Max,

Why the 744? 'Coz it's a bigger sh@g pad?

Quokka 29th Feb 2008 11:18

...enjoy the break, and you're right about needing to get into those A330 at taxi, or sometime soon after... never could get TMA to pass a requirement though. The grief came when an aircraft told you on first contact that it could meet the requirement, then entered the 100KT-plus jet-stream and couldn't meet the requirement. :ugh:

Obviously talking about the performance of the bank account rather than the performance of the aeroplane! :E

I can't wait to get hold of a 'modern' flight deck on something with the grunt of the 787. All the 'niceties' of the 744 with the 'joy' of the 767. Bliss! :ok:

westausatc 1st Mar 2008 01:27

Keg,

Is the 787 going to have the performance of a 767? Surely in this day and age of 'environmental consciousness' those sort of things get thrown out the door? Don't get me wrong - would love it to be able to climb like the 76 but just not sure Boeing will sacrifice improved fuel consumption for it.

Keg 1st Mar 2008 02:44

It's a two holer westie so logic suggests that its going to have some get up and go- at least in the lower levels- in order to cater for the engine out case. Heaps of grunt to cater for this means heaps of grunt available for the remainder of the climb

I just hope they don't go the way of the A330 which when heavy is supposedly a slug almost as bad as the 744 when approaching top of climb. I'm not sure why this is- de-rated thrust management in the climb?- but I'll be broken hearted if Boeing do go down this alley.

Of course, full rating climb on the 744 burns less fuel than rating one but does result in higher EGT and thus 'harder' (figuratively speaking) on the engines. Therefore if we're concerned about saving fuel than getting to altitude more quickly is the way to go! :ok:
