Good Bye GD

The Townsville refueler tells me GD is retiring in 6 months, he has slashed and burned everything and now his management skills are no longer required... who will take his place?

CaptCloudbuster 12th Jan 2008 01:56

couldn't be worse!

Heard the same from the Adelaide cleaning staff - now I know it's true.

He will be sorely missed. How will we function without him?

Six more months to plunder - is that enough time?

Capt Wally 12th Jan 2008 02:10

GD leaving ain't the problem, nobody is 4ever, it's the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of nasty's & bitter tasts left in employees mouths he's going to leave behind ! Maybe the 'oil pump' repair job wasn't that good, he'd ask the engineers for help, if he had any that cared !
Funny how the guys at 'ground' level know such things, without you lot the world stops turning !:)

So I wonder if GD's little irishman (as he apparently calls him) is looking forward to the top job?

I would imagine the board is looking at his track record at JQ thinking that he is just the sort of person they want...:}

satos 12th Jan 2008 06:50

I hope that's not his son.

Stationair8 12th Jan 2008 06:56

Quick book the phone-box at Port Keats for his farewell function.

Wod 12th Jan 2008 07:05

Be very careful what you wish for people.

Imagine someone with the same people skills, but inferior business skills.

Instead of unhappy workers, you would be unhappy Re Dundees.

thosecotos 12th Jan 2008 07:43

a refueller in TSV and a cleaner in ADL....definitely truth then

I love this website!

Qantas 787 12th Jan 2008 07:55

Well if Peter Gregg gets the job, he will slash costs even more than Dixon........he is a numbers man and will do everything to reduce costs even further. Help us if he is the successor.............

DEFCON4 12th Jan 2008 08:57

Il Duce

I would hope that Borghetti has the inside running. He is the last senior manager that came up through the Qantas School. All these others are nothing more than pretenders from TAA.A domestic skill set running an international airline. No wonder the place is in crisis.
Dixon's departure will be like losing a haemorhoid.

Short_Circuit 12th Jan 2008 09:28

Yes a 2 Billion Dollar hemorrhoid. :} OUCH !

Buster Hyman 12th Jan 2008 09:36

Oh, so it wasn't a heart bypass, but a horn removal he had....

strobe12 13th Jan 2008 01:18

So we all have ideas on who the worst candidates would be, apart from JB.

So who does the PPRUNE folks think would be a good person to take the CEO position?

Jabawocky 13th Jan 2008 01:30

Answer.....Me.

I would do a much better job of listening to those and empowering those who actually know what the job is that needs to be done.

Let the accountants manage the funds, and thats it!

Its not not much harder than that.

And I would do it for a fraction of the current payscale of GD.

No matter what job you do....nobody is worth what he gets paid. Nobody.

If you can get me the gig, PM me.:ok:

Capt Wally 13th Jan 2008 01:48

Hey 'jaba' don't forget the 'mum & dad QF investors, they'll want to see a return on their monies, afterall QF is a public Co. not just for the employees. Don't let the accountants handle the purse strings, sheeeez see what most drive thses days?:bored: When yr at the head of QF handing out cigars & pay rise to the troops (we all would do the same anyway) it means you have less in the kitty for the true owners of the airline:). If QF could buy back all it's shares then you can go crazy & give the A/C toilet cleaners a $200 pw rise, heavens knows they deserve it, what a job !:)
As for the engineers?.........well there ain't enough money for those guys/gals, without them the A/C would only make good cubby houses !:}
Anyway whom ever takes the controls we can only hope for a better end result, they couldn't do much worse than the current management!:bored:

Wally,

The shareholders need to understand what a 100% write down of their investment really means. Ansett was a recent example.

Its seems to me the cow is being milked dry, and you can only do that for so long. Again refer Ansett.

As for the accountants and lawyers.....these guys are quite possibly the most over paid of them all. Value for money, they probably yield the least. If a really good bean counter costs $100K PA, what kind of miracles does one who costs $250K or moreprovide?

Think about this, when was the last time the accounts, legal and senior management asked to become more competitive?:ugh: Just like the operational folk are? See its not about giving out crazy pay rises, its about balance, and many large companies do not have that.

Many a lesson could be learnt by the study of folk like Warren Buffet. Simple things like the expensive cars you allude to.....a budget of say $60k for all these guys and want a Porsche......pay for it yourself.

J:ok:

Bush Pig 13th Jan 2008 03:45

Any engineer that has a sound sense of reasonability and honesty. They seem to be the only people that do, except of course the A380 legendary technical aviation specialist team! :}

Capt Wally 13th Jan 2008 05:01

Hey that's fine Jaba:) It takes more than one single guy CEO, GD to bring a Co. down.
Ansett's demise is/was complexe as we know. As above it took a lot more than one individual to bring that icon to it's knees.
I think you will find that upper management need to perfom just like any other part of the buisness, if they don't they are given the heav-ho, we see/hear this a lot with large Co's. It's just that those charactors aren't living from pay to pay as some of the 'drones' are.

Like I said will be interesting to see who takes the helm after GD, those initials will mean "Gone & done" when he's just in the histroy books:bored:

Interesting points from all:)

CW:ok:

newsensation 13th Jan 2008 05:12

How about Dick Smith, Australians for Australian jobs no more outsourcing to cheep overseas labour and we know he knows all about aviation...
but in think John Borgetti will get the job.
