Air NZ adding routes

I heard Air NZ is adding routes to Beijing. Expansion is good!!

flyby_kiwi 16th Dec 2007 20:47

Word is that one new international destination added to the network every year. I think also on the cards is another US destination somewhere further inland.

ANstar 17th Dec 2007 00:28

I heard they were dropping 2 x Shanghai frequencies and swapping them with Beijing?

flyby_kiwi 17th Dec 2007 02:45

Correct - for the time being. As of (I think late 2008) the Shanghai frequencies will be reinstated, aswell as keeping the Beijing ones.

Exactly as I heard it. Good news for us wannabes. Hiring to increase come July/August.

Flyby...any idea what US destination might be added?

I think when the 787 arrives you will seem them go to New York

flyby_kiwi 18th Dec 2007 21:16

J D,

From what I rightly or wrongly remember Chicago was being considered.

Where to next

ORD?
DFW? (back to the future!)
LAS?
SEA?
SCL - hmmmm, roo's beaten us to it.
Sorry horserun but JFK, LGA or MIA (wouldn't that be nice) - a little too far I think, even with the plastic plane - think payload range - headwinds on the way back.

Just draw the range circle around AKL guys, then look at whether its a good inbound to NZ market for punters with lots of $$$.

J D 20th Dec 2007 13:27

Thanks for the response. It would be hard to imagine them going to the East Coast. I could certainly see DFW. In any case its good to see them considering more routes, signs of a healthy company!

There may be hope for me yet!

NZ's Thinking

NZ is asking itself some quite fundemental questions at the moment.
As they move from 747 to 777 and phase in 787... what is the case for routes that don't have AKL at one end?
Suspect LHR will always be a fixture.
But the route map in 10-15yrs time could look quite different... a whole fan of lines stretching directly out from AKL right around the Pacific Rim.
V. interesting stuff.
MAA?
BOM?
CAN?
And by that time... leaders who think they're James Bond... will be just a faint memory;)
