Qantas To Receive The 5000th Airbus Today.

I have been told by a contact at Airbus, that the 5000th Airbus delivered since 1974, an A330-200 will be delivered today to none other than Qantas. :)

Congratulations to both Airbus and Qantas. :)

Thank heavens it's not going to Jetstar - who knows what spin Simon Westaway would come out with!

Actually given the little incident in Toulouse a couple of weeks back would this be the 5000th built, 4999th delivered?

Capt Kremin 13th Dec 2007 21:15

From my memory it would be the 4998th delivered. Airbus pranged an A330 at the factory a few years ago, killing their Chief Test pilot and the rest of the crew. I believe it remains as the only A330 to have ever crashed although I could be wrong.

It is supposed to be the 5000th delivered.

There would be many more than that built, each type right back to the A300 would have airframes built that were never delivered to an Operator, various test airframes etc.

Incidentally does anyone know what number of deliveries Boeing are up to now?

One of the Ansett B727-200LRs was #4000.

Here's a photo of it at Toulouse. First Airbus to wear the new Qantas logo and titles:

Is the paintwork a warranty item?
Depends on who you get to do the stripping......

excellr8 14th Dec 2007 03:44

Well thank god Jackson won't be doing it!!!!!!!!

blueloo 14th Dec 2007 03:57

I think it should say "Qantas" "Spirit of Australia" "Legacy of Geoff Dixon"
and then a picture of a scrotum undearneath it all.

airsupport 14th Dec 2007 08:47

The paint work seems to have been done properly?
This is a video from Airbus of the complete manufacture of this Aircraft.
Quite large video, you probably need broadband.

5000th DELIVERED Airbus

Does this the 5000th delivered airbus include the Emirates 340 that had an incident in Toulouse a few weeks ago? :E

Taildragger67 14th Dec 2007 11:39

Wingspan,

Don't you mean the Etihad one mentioned above, or was an EK one dinged as well ? :hmm:

What amazes me is that Sing Air didn't manage to snaffle the milestone aircraft. Someone will surely get the boot for missing that one. :hmm: again...

Not that I'm cynical or nuttin'!

airsupport 14th Dec 2007 20:08

Airbus have issued this sticker to celebrate the event.

Even this can be read the wrong way, literally in English it sounds like it is the 5000th Airbus for Qantas.

Stationair8 14th Dec 2007 20:13

Each Qantas staff member will get a free sticker instead of a Christmas bonus.
