Under the airports current configuration, could 737's run out of Wollongong?

I was just there today. The main runway "feels" long enough at 1800m.

In looking up the website for some details of the airport, the pavement limit is 22.5 Tonnes. Which would probably rule out a 737 regardless of length ... but a 737 is a bit bigger than anything I have every flown.

1800m would be plenty for SYD-MEL and possibly even something like SYD-ADL. I've never flown the 737 so not 100% sure.

The real question is one of demand for an RPT service- unless one of you guys is thinking of chartering a 737 for the day! :E :}

Runway length is just the start. At Wollongong, the hills are real close and it is quite probable that the 737 would be severely restricted because of the obstacles.

I guess the more sensible question is could it take E170s or E190s :E

I suspect neither the 73 nor the Embraear will be able to operate out of WOL, well not on runway 16 anyway. To use the full length of 16 you require 4.98% climb gradient!:eek:

Supplementary take off distances, reduce operating length to 1637M at 3.33% and down to 1393M at 2.5%, technically you could probably do it, but you wouldn't be carrying much...;)
