So this new de-iceing unit you mention,will it be proper fluid or hot water as is available now?

As I understand it a 50/50 mix of type 1 fluid (kilfrost vs water) will be used which is heated as well by the unit with the ability to replenish as required.:ok:

I hope someone in Eastern is aware of the new toy and has made arragements for it's use when the Dashies frost up - I'll find out when I'm back at work.

Don't believe however any-one has proper de-icing in Melbourne and pax should chill or fly with VB, sure they still has some troubles though.

I had heard someone told the beancounters that global warming was taking effect and melbourne would not have any more sub zero temperatures. Hence save on de-icing equipment, hence that someone got their bonus...:}

DJ DOES have deice equipment in MEL. Used it the other day after we landed in fog with a heap of fuel on board.

I didn't think anyone had got around the EPA issues of using the old equipment, guess DJ must have if you used it the other day. Half your luck.

APAM set the guidelines for the use of the equipment I believe.
A spillage sock (large one obviously) must be placed around the run-off area and following departure of the A/C a thorough wash and suction clean of the affected tarmac is mandatory to prevent any run-off.:ok:

As long as everyone here is now aware that VB does have icing equiptment in ML, does use it legally and my undestanding is that VB actually offered the use of this equiptment to QF on this particular day and it was knocked back! (have no idea at what cost though :hmm: )

I heard that DJ equipment was used to de-ice one QF domestic aircraft and after receiving a bill for $11,000, further use of the equipment was declined. Market forces, as usual, determines the price. :E

That does not surprise me in the least GB :ok:
