QF Bus/Boeing aircraft decision

Qantas is due to make its much-anticipated fleet decision between the 787/777 and A340/A350 on Dec. 7.
CEO Geoff Dixon told ATWOnline that the airline will submit on that day a recommendation to the board for the 100-aircraft commitment. Boeing is working with Qantas on an even longer-range 777-200LR to operate nonstop from Sydney to London. It would be configured in an all-business-class arrangement and have a lighter-weight interior.

Dixon said Airbus has advised that its A340-500 is not a contender for the Sydney-London Heathrow route and added that the route is not without its challenges for the 777-200LR.

Meantime, he said the carrier is looking to expand its Australian LCC Jetstar to take over regional international holiday routes from both Qantas and its holiday subsidiary Australian Airlines. The new Jetstar International would be two-class and eventually may fly to the US and Europe.

>>> Crikey Boeing's helping QF with an all business class 777!

I vaugely remember seeing a post like this two or three years ago, albeit minus the 787.

When will the worlds greatest prevaricators get around to making a decision to join the rest of the world. Even the second and third string players in the far east have more modern equipment,

Perhaps it is that Geffy is about to retire, and therefore a gross expenditure on modern equipment will not affect the bottom line before he pulls the golden parachute.

Maybe be something or this may be nothing, but both Dixon and Borgetti have just gone over to Houston this week.

Taildragger67 24th Oct 2005 13:50

Rammel,

What's in Houston?

missy 24th Oct 2005 13:57

in a private jet no doubt!!

longreach 25th Oct 2005 22:18

Haven't there been rumblings of rumours that Qantas want to fly to Houston for a long time now? Perhaps the rumblings have some truth?

No, that would be Dallas, where AA have a huge hub. Have no idea what QF would be doing in Houston.

Heard they are looking to buy a fleet of space shuttles for Jetstar.

rammel 26th Oct 2005 06:30

I've got no idea what is in Houston. Just guessing does Boeing have any offices there, as both of them going to Seattle would be a bit obvious if an order was on the cards.

With an order of this size, the Boeing Execs would gladly fly to Sydney instead of making the QF Execs fly to Seattle. :ok:

Houston is Boeing's Headquarters now, they moved about 18 months ago.

sandpit 27th Oct 2005 00:20

Boeing HQ is in Chicago. Continental HQ is in Houston. Maybe they are expanding their alliances?

Dropt McGutz 27th Oct 2005 03:31

Or looking for scab pilots??

Pity City 27th Oct 2005 07:08

Sorry my mistake, I knew it was not Seattle anymore and the more I think about it Houston was way off.

Taildragger67 28th Oct 2005 12:14

Well, they've got something in Texas:

and sort by state

But I agree that if QF were thinking of signing up, YSSY and QCC would be crawling with seppos.

Then again, if there were mock-ups & engineering stuff to look at & poke around, then the QF bods might have to make the trip.

The alternative is that they were sighted at Bush en-route to the Caribbean or somewhere else for a spot of fishing...
