I believe your last statement amy well be correct Richard.

Bolty McBolt 27th Oct 2005 07:50

Monsieur Kranium and Dropt.

The maintenance people being offered redundancies had their EBA ratified (many rats in the process) at Jan 1 this year…..
I believe it is the L/H pilots and S/H CC who are still to negotiate their deal.

Whom are you referring to ..asking for pay rise whilst jobs are falling?????

Richard Kranium 27th Oct 2005 08:46

Mr McBolt...I thought it odd that maintenance people are under threat of 3000 job cuts and exported overseas, while at the same time I hear on the ABC that the L/H pilots or AIPA are going for a 3% pay rise, so much for the Spirit of Australia.

Richard Kranium 27th Oct 2005 09:07

What does that have to do with the price of eggs...they are covered by AWU/AMWU and what!...what does that mean...that the jobs won't be sent overseas...just an ambit claim by Dixon so that the unions comes into the negotiations shaking in their boots roll over and capitulate...well ok he will come out smelling like roses I guess and a hero of the government and AIPA...otherwise I guess the jobs will go.:hmm:

Dropt McGutz 27th Oct 2005 09:52

I didn't realise the engineers EBA had already been signed off. It just so happens that the long haul pilots EBA is being voted on right now, after twelve months of negotiations. As I said before, massive profits and huge executive bonus's and the staff are being told you may lose your jobs and we can't afford more than a CPI increase - as long as you give offsets. The whole thing reeks of hypocrisy. :yuk:

Bolty McBolt 27th Oct 2005 23:41

At the moment... The current redundancies are only being offered to LAMES at major maint. They need to keep their AMEs (AWU/AMWU staff) to make major maint more efficient. Need a high AME / LAME ratio. This is for the department to survive.
The 30 jobs at the Syd Int Term is a figure plucked to illustrate the amount of manpower the SQ required. Lets hope the man-hours can be redeployed rather than job cuts

From what I have read in other threads.
The L/H pilots are about to have their vote..Many RATs in this process too
From my experience as a LAME if they vote no and arent willing to take action to back it up.(of the industrial kind)

When they come back to the table to negociate they will be offered less and the pay rises will start at the day of RATIFICATION..ie NO back pay to the end of the last EBA.

We are all watching

Richard Kranium 28th Oct 2005 02:30

Well I just don't want to see people loose their jobs especially when Qantas has poted a record profit....it just amounts to pure greed.:yuk:

soldier of fortune 1st Nov 2005 01:43

seems a couple of very recent ex qf sydney engineering maintenance managers have taken over the sq contract in conjuction with amsa

the shaman 2nd Nov 2005 09:36

jungle tom toms say that one of those ex QF managers initials are KP... true or false

The masked goatrider 22nd Nov 2005 20:15

KP is true.
PP seems to have joined him.

Don't think we will be seeing KMc there though.

soldier of fortune 23rd Nov 2005 01:00

has the qantas - air newzealand line maint contrat been re-newed or as the rumors keep saying qf have lost that one too.

unhappy worker 25th Nov 2005 09:43

Have heard that the ANZ contract is on a month to month deal, along with the news that the BA work is going Base Maint in Syd. This has made the SIT boys a little uneasy, seems like RH didn't want the work but KMc did.

A1BUGSMASHER 26th Nov 2005 01:47

With QANTAS lossing the SQ contract and the AirNZ contract still up for grabs why wouldn't any LAME worried about their future at QANTAS apply for a job with AMSA??

With the current uncertainty in QANTAS wouldn't it make sense to work somewhere with job security being paid slightly less to begin with?? I hear AMSA plan to pay a little more than QANTAS by early next year...... Just my thoughts, no doubt I'll be howled down!

I had an idea that QF maintenance acquired ISO9001/2000 accreditation a couple of years ago. Also thought I heard that the Flight Ops Dept had consistently failed to acquire the same accreditation. Not sure how true this is but feel sure that the ISO accreditation thing must be costing QF a bundle to keep in Maintenance and to (fail to) acquire for Flight Ops.

QF has always been my first choice for travel as SLF and I was bouyed by the thought that their maintenance was of the highest standard. However, if maintenance is to be out-sourced (and I assume the successful contractor will have to hold the same ISO accreditation), maybe QF has given up on those efforts and related costs to themselves?

Maybe someone can connect the dots on this for me?

sys 4 27th Nov 2005 20:02

AMSA are no longer hiring they have the numbers they need to run the op,as for maintenance standards not dropping if the work s outsourced, think again.
It's very nieve to think that work that is outsourced will be done to the same standard, when u are a 3rd party op your focus is to make money which ever way possible as this is your primary source of income,as an airline your primary source of income is flying pax and your maintenance op are back room done by your own people who's only concern is aircraft saftey, not making a profit for your employer.
