First it was Airports lossing the Pax and Ground handling. Then it was Engineering. Only one left and thats SQ's contract with the Pie Shops. Sounds ominous to me.

absolutely it is a loss for the people losing their jobs, but what was being done wrong for QF to lose the contract? was it all just $ $ $?

SQ just need to get over themselves.

one thing i can tell you though is that i would rather have Australians doing maintenance on our aircraft and not cheap labour. I was speaking to a few other crew and they are worried we're going to be flying on aircraft maintained by a Chinese sweat shop! A little bit worrying 30,000ft up in the air!

SIA Australian Engineering support contract

Been told AMSA based in Bne got the handling contract.
BUT, who are they, how big are they, how competent are they?
Haven't really heard of them before, of any signifigance anyway.
Does anyone know what their background/history is? Can they really take over from QF and provide the technical expertise/people/infrastructure required for such a big contract? Did they advertise for positions, as QF support expires in November!
Would be interested to hear any opinion.

yeh my mistake --mel lame
amsa got the contract in syd as well--
amsa providing certification-- with patrick/jetcare providing
ground handling including arms and legs- this encompasses tows/apu starting etc etc--
they are a very small outfit here in syd and one wonders how they will ramp up for A380/b777 - i expect major problems .

i do recall an advertisement in the fri australian a short while ago looking for lame's with b777/b744 with pw4000 -good luck if they can find the Lame's -i hear amsa arn't paying very well

The Guts Of it

I wouldn’t believe all you read in the smh as the info supplied to it came from a biased source
SQ made a small error when they dumped their “commercial contract”(catering cleaning check in, baggage etc) with QF.
They Assumed that water service, REPOSITIONING TOWS and PUSH BACK TUGS were part of the ENGINEERING contract which was to remain.
In SQ this is the norm for Eng supply these services and was also true in many airports around the world until about 12 years ago.

(Something to note that TUGS/TOWS, water come out of the SQ engineering budget not commercial airports)

When SQ were confronted with the issue of having to find a Maint org capable of supplying Tugs/Tows to cater for its amount of traffic SQ enquired at QANTAS.
Apparently the word came from the top top not to supply tugs.

SQ now faced with having to pay QF Engineering for engineers and another company for tractor tugs found the bill was double the price of the old contract.
SQ wanted lower prices from QF Eng but would not go below cost.
SQs previous contract was a good deal as it was a “job lot” discounted for bulk user of all QFs services.

Looks like GD is playing GOD now engineers will lose their job thru no faults or inefficiencies of there own.

Air NZ can smell the blood in the water, can see QF under the thumb screw and is pushing for a better deal on their contract. Lets hope AirNZ stays, as it will be the loss of hundreds of jobs in all departments Aust wide

Air NZ has lost the ground contract for SQ. It went over to planebiz.

It was hoped we would get it back, but from what I have just read about QF I doubt it now. Seems the Star Allliance and/or loyalty means nothing these days.

Richard Kranium, your name says it all. Qantas have OFFERED a 3% payrise to all employee groups in returns for offsets. I wouldn't mind a 3% payrise but to have to give up conditions to stay up with inflation when they are making record profits and the executive management reward themselves with multi million dollar bonus's is a bit rich. Now Dixon is making threats to the pilot group if we vote no. Is it any wonder so many employee's are pissed off at Qantas? Employee's get no thanks or respect from executive management. We're just treated like **** and walked all over. How convenient that Qantas has forgotten how the pilots took a 0% payrise a few years ago when things were tough and now they turn around and wave the big stick at us. How convenient!

If my name says it all...so what does the name Dropt McGutz say?...something intelligent I suppose....probably the most intelligent utterances come from that end in your case.

The ABC only interviewed some untouchable from AIPA, did not hear from anyone else...

So your are saying the maintenece boys and girls are being offered a 3% payrise while threats of 3000 jobs going at the same time...
