I think Dicky's the Anti-Christ!

But that's just a personal opinion!

Question

So from the non-Christian viewpoint, is that a GOOD thing, or a BAD thing, Buster?

Oh and in case you were wondering, we’re not hung up on flying through Hong Kong. You might end up doing your days work experience through Singapore, Thailand or Malaysia instead.
As I have said before in a previous thread, for Virgin Atlantic to fly through any of these countries to Australia and pick up passengers enroute they are going to have to have Fifth Freedom rights. These agreements aren’t between airlines, they are between governments. The British government has been trying to get Fifth Freedom rights through Hong Kong for British carriers for at least six years but the Hong Kong government wants similar rights for Hong Kong carriers through Great Britain. To this end the British Government have flatly refused. So I can’t see them flying through Hong Kong any time soon. As for Singapore, I think that Singapore Airlines might have something to say about that, as they are a large shareholder in Virgin Atlantic. I don’t know how negotiations are going for Fifth Freedom rights between the governments of Thailand, Malaysia and Great Britain but if they are anything like the negotiations with the Hong Kong government, then all I can say is that it is going to be a long time before Virgin Atlantic fly to Australia via any of these Asian ports.

I believe Virgin Atlantic have traffic rights LHR-KUL, LHR-SYD and KUL SYD. The rights are currently being exercised using a code share with MH.

I recently saw an ad for "Fly to London on Impulse" which caught my eye. It was a Virgin Atlantic add for discount seats aimed at last minute travellers.

So someone has a chip on both shoulders..... must be australian!
Seriously though RB employees must cringe when they read his
infantile messages on the side of his aircraft eg. mines bigger than yours, 4 engines for long haul, no way BA AA, etc.
He is also a private company and you will never find out how
badly he is doing at any moment in time.He also squeals
loudly when he doesnt get his own way

Whether you love him or hate him, RB is all about publicity for himself (mainly) and his companies. You have to admit that he has done very well this week and he can't loose because he knows GD will not take up the challenge!
If Virgin Atlantic in 18 months is still not flying UK-Aust, who will remember what RB said, next to nobody........good publicity!

Dixon's response is to be expected, I suppose for all those dreary shareholders out there. I myself am not Impressed and will vote my concerns at the next QF AGM. If a highly paid CEO cant think of anything in response to Bransons cheeky offer, well Im stunned.

Maybe I should dump my My Qantas shares while I still can afford a Type Rating with them, before they only cover a renewall....

Virgin Atlantic are getting closer.

Just read a press release where Virgin Atlantic are going to code share on the 5 times a week SQ service from Manchester to Singapore.

B772 - that's a pretty optimistic outlook based purely on a codeshare arrangement being put in place - hardly an indicator of Virgin Atlantic starting operations in their own right. After all, if we were to apply the same logic to QF, then the following routes must be kicking off shortly:
Argentina, Chile, Canada, China, Dubai, Finland, Korea, Samoa, Switzerland, Zimbabwe & Vietnam - phew...!

I'd suggest that Branson & his team might have a much harder time getting 5th freedom rights through to Australia than the boss would like. But, as RaTa has suggested, at the end of the day it is more about getting publicity for RB than announcing any well thought out business strategies.

Just my thoughts...

Johny Utah,

Yes well most of those destinations QF dont run, but they did one for awhile and thats Argentina. One of its route culls post 9/11 and the economic fall out of that country.

As for Branson not getting rights to fly to Oz what do you know that we dont?

He Allready has an Operation in country and its by all accounts doing very well.

QF is not really expanding at this stage and is looking like its growth is stunted. Due SARS etc.

If whats happeneing at BA is an indicator to what might happen at QF well who knows. And we all know that BA still has a 25% stake in QF. Poor BA are getting "Rodgered" at the moment, those of you who are CX would understand what that means.....

Will QF get " Dicked" aswell?

Regards
Sheep
