Rorting Qantas - Who can help ??
G'day People,
Im in possession of a QF ticket that I cant use - Its not changeble, but id still like to try and claim the frequent flyer points for it.
If i check in (no bags) but then do a runner before I get to the gate, can I still claim FF points ??

That's just great. It is worth noting that in this time of "downturn", the airlines are suffering financially but they are still being gouged by the airports, and by the govt (taxes applied to tickets), and by Airservices Australia (and their foreign counterparts). None of these organisations are absorbing any of the "downturn" by reducing fees. So why shouldn't the pax have a go as well??

Better make sure none of the 405 pax, assuming the flight is operated by a B744, know who causes the delay when a checked pax fails to board!
Given that QF know whether I've travelled on interline discount or not and allocate FF points appropriately, I'd think that if you failed to board, they'd fail to allocate points!

That only has a chance of working it it's a domestos flight. If it's international the person won't get past the outgoing customs where the boarding pass is matched up to the passport.

I believe that obtaining a boarding pass and then not boarding is silly.
Do you think that maybe when you don’t turn up for the flight they may remove your name from the manifest?

To gain a few measly frequent flyer points you would chance causing a major delay to an aeroplane full of people who actually booked a flight at a time and date on which they intended to fly?
Next time, go to a Travel Agency, buy one of the marginally dearer flights available there (and good Travel Agencies can sell the "idiot" fares too) and if you cannot fly the fare can be stored and upgraded for use at a later stage with a small penalty.
Bet you booked the fare on the net.

Yup EWL - Its official....... im a tool.
I booked the cheapest internet fare that I could find and didnt read the fine print.
If id paid $11 more I could have flown with Virgin, and changed the ticket for fifty odd bucks.
Why shouldnt an air ticket be transferable ?? Is there a good reason ? Every other product that I buy that I can think of I can give to someone else if I fell like it, why not an air ticket ??
And longhauler - Why should I give QF the opportunity to re-sell the seat that I paid good money for ?? Besides, me not being in my seat saves them fuel and one of those $2 lunches. So i reckon im doing them a favour, if they want to delay the flight, their problem.

Airlines do offer transferable or refundable tickets, but at a price. Why would you purchase a ticket of this mature if unsure on your travel commitments?

make a duplicate booking for same flight and name on one of the NEW changeable internet fares with a small fee, then call QF internet help desk and make them aware of duplicate booking, they will refund initial booking, then 2 days later you can call back and pay $35 fee to change your new ticket to the days you want.

My comment was aimed more at the title of your post - which is obviously what you consider you would be doing - rorting. Oh, and by the way, no surprises that it is a "cabinboy" who knows how to rort the system

I find it funny you think it is cabin crew who know how to rort the system.There are many ways this gentleman could get his money back-my reply was simply one of many options available which are "allowed" as part of qantas fare rulings. Fair go mate.
Speaking of rorting the system I have seen plenty of tech crew get friends,aunty's, uncles,neighbours etc moved up to J/P class on flights - is this not using their position to effectively "rort" the system ? How much money is that cheating QF out of ?

Your airline ticket is a contract between you and the Airline.
Most never bother to read the conditions of CONTRACT that you are entering into with the Airline, and what your and their individual responsibilities are.
Have a look next time you get a chance, as it has as many rights for you, the SLF as it does for the carrier.
The guts of the matter are, that if you, Joe Bloggs got nissed as a pit on a flight and faceplanted the tarmac trying to negotiate the airstairs and broke your neck while flying on a ticket you bought in the name of Dan Eccles, then your compensation claim has just gone whistling into oblivion.
You broke the terms of contract, and the Airline is well within their rights to tell you to bite yourself.
The rules are there for a reason, and that reason is available either on a website or in the paper ticket that you bought. for E ticket flight, available at the Airport or your Travel Agent.

Net fares? Too bad how sad - buy a new ticket.
Totally inflexible. You have no idea how many wannabee DIY Travel Agents we get coming in to ask us to fix what they stuffed up.
They come back.

Since it is non-changeable, non-refundable, non-endorsable yadda yadda you will not see a cent of it returned to you. The ticket is subsequently cancelled so thus no FF points are earned.

Been there too:
I usually use a very good agent but sometimes I need to book flights after 1700.
Bought Internet Ticket after hours, plans stuffed up, missed flight, lost money.
My stuff up, My fault & I copped it on the chin.
Wouldn't have minded the points though.

Can't believe the cr@p talked over the dollars saved ($11 for eg) and a few lousy points which you probably can't use when you want to anyway. Most of us probably drop more than that in spilt beer on Friday nights. Someone needs to get a life in a hurry.
