747-200 for Longreach permanent display

from Sydney Airport Message Board:

From www.qfom.com
A BOEING 747 LANDING AT AN OUTBACK QUEENSLAND TOWN AIRSTRIP!
THE DELIVERY OF QANTAS 747-200 VH-EBQ TO THE QANTAS FOUNDERS OUTBACK MUSEUM LONGREACH, FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY
1100 SATURDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2002

At 1100 am, weather permitting, on Saturday 16TH November 2002 Qantas Airways will deliver the Boeing 747-200 VH-EBQ to the Qantas Founders Outback Museum at Longreach in outback Queensland, Australia.

The aircraft will be delivered and displayed in an “as it came out of service condition” and will show people of the future how aviation and mass travel was conducted in the 20th century.

Longreach was selected for the museum not only because it was Qantas’ first operational base in 1921 but also because the dry atmosphere should ensure long term preservation.

*******

Apparently from A.net, QF will also sent VH-VXB down to Longreach as a charter for the day.

==========================================

Wondering how much to charter a Virgin Blue 737, and if there
would be enough PPruners interested to make it worthwhile out of BNE, I would take the time to make inquiries if enough of you
are keen. Do you think Brett would get off on the idea? (Can a
duck swim!)

I wouldn't bother. As there is, there is VXB going up from SYD, a NJ 146 going from ADL and a Dash-8 from BNE.

Yipes! I just read the message from Luke Chittock over on
Sydney Airport message board:

"Just reading on the website that there are also charters ex BNE & ADL. The charter ex SYD is $655.00 which includes accommodation and dinner - great value I reckon. I've put my name down on the list"

My idea would be to fly up for a few hours, return to BNE and
proceed to the Hammo for a few more ale's, $655 is way over
the top, I was thinking more like $175-$250 range per head.

Seeing there is barely room for a couple of Dash 8's parking should be interesting!

I'm coming I'm coming.

Can someone please point me at the BNE charter site as I'll be seeing princess gaunty on the way through.???

Wirraway old chap the QF return fare is $558 economy restricted so I wouldn't have thought $655 was all that bad and we get our own personal pilot.
Gotta say an O/N in LRE would have to be the go 'twould be a fine time in he old town that night.
Considering an official PPRuNe Bash could be convened.

Gaunty

You are right as usual, I'll watch it on tv instead and put an extra
$100 up and visit my mates bar in Makati in Manila instead,
always have a great time there.

It was a stupid suggestion anyway, thats what happens when
you turn 60, start losing reality. :-)

Bugga, reality is what mrs gaunty keps confronting me with.

So I've only got 4 years to fantasyland, bring it on baby.

It's ever so much better then reality.

Puts on thinking cap.

Does anyone know of a similar charter being organised from Melbourne?

Is the Pprune bash on .......

Woomera, any chance of cross-posting this thread onto GA so everyone knows about it?

Sounds like its going to be a big deal; I for one will not miss the chance to see a one-off 747 landing in LRE.

(Hey 429CJ, grab a bunch of backpackers, fire up 'TREV' and rip over to LRE!)

Given the terrain, will they have to mark it as an obstruction on the chart? not that anyone will miss it!

The time draws nigh. My wife and many friends operated on her. Does anyone know of an internet feed that will show the arrival for us a world away.
