Thumbs up Virgin Blue's massive expansion plans.

Extra planes to lift Virgin Blue sky high
By GEOFF EASDOWN
31aug02

VIRGIN Blue intends to immediately double the size of its fleet by spending more than $3 billion on new aircraft.

Virgin will buy up to 40 new aircraft and also plans to fly international routes to Asia and New Zealand, company founder Sir Richard Branson yesterday announced.
The flamboyant entrepreneur said in Sydney that Boeing was the front-runner to supply the planes ahead of Europe's Airbus.

The decision will be made within two weeks.

Sir Richard said his London-based Virgin Atlantic airline had returned to profit after the terrorist attacks.

But the strong rebound for economy class had not occurred in business travel, which could take a couple of years to claw back to pre-September 11 levels, he said.

Virgin Atlantic, which is 49 per cent owned by Singapore Airlines, reported a pre-tax loss of pound stg. 92 million ($A258.3 million) in 2001-02.

Brisbane-based Virgin Blue is considering offers from Boeing and Airbus.

"We need to at least double the current size, maybe - if possible - even triple the size of it," said Sir Richard.

The airline wants to start services to New Zealand and Hong Kong within 12 months, he said.

Kiwi flights might be introduced sooner if Qantas succeeds in buying a stake in Air NZ, Sir Richard said, adding that sizeable regulatory hurdles had still to be overcome.

The airline also has plans to expand Australian routes and add capacity to existing services. Defending the group's bare bones operations, Sir Richard said the rapid build-up forced on Virgin Blue last year after Ansett's demise had not lifted the airline's costs.

"So far, I think we still have got the lowest costs of any airline in the world," he said.

He said it was important for the company, whose planes now carry anti-Sydney Airport management slogans, to win the right to access facilities at the old Ansett terminal.

Sir Richard said net profit would top $100 million during its third year in operation.

"The results are going to be very, very good" for the year ending March 31, 2003, he said, adding that an initial public offering was likely to be made in the first half of next year.

Virgin Blue survived a price-cutting campaign that saw off Ansett and fellow start-up carrier Impulse Airlines last year.

Recruitment Ban

Virgin is the airline needing a recruitment ban how can we just join an airline that exploits all its workers .
How dare they make a person pay for an endorsement then pay them crap money **** rosters and **** heap aeroplanes .
I would rather stay home on the dole than lower myself to working for those ****ERS and all pilots should avoid working for them they don't deserve to expand .
Remember Godfrey saying he didnt want the AN terminals, now he does because SQ is Sniffing around, they keep changing the rules.
I hope all pilots at DJ apply to SQ for work when it comes up and leave them high and dry.
Lets impose a recruitment ban on the ****S.

Real Intelligent post "RAMBOFLYER"

quote "Id rather sit on the dole"...........good call you dimwit!!

I would suggest that you get use to being at home on the dole, as thats where you will be for quite sometime with your supremist attitude.

I am sure there are a lot of guys who are out of work on the dole who do not agree with you.

It comes down to a very simple fact......
If you dont like whats being offered, then dont work there!!

No one is forced to work there, there is no hush hush about what is being offered, it is all right in front of you, before you take the job. But I dont think you will have to worry RAMBOFLYER.
With them or just about any other company.

By the way you are doing all employers a favour too sitting on your ass.

Infact how about all employers have a ban on RAMBOFLYER!!!

After your post I am sure most people would agree, thats the better way to go.

"RAMBOFLYER".........a TRUE LOSER TO THE HIGHEST DGREE!!!!!!!

Rambo,

I am amazed that with an attitude like that you got into QF.

If you don't want the job don't turn up at the interview - better still ring Alison and tell her that you won't be making an appearance - the Management Pilots have better things to do than waste their time on you - like giving jobs to people that want them.

I hope you enjoy folding the maps the correct way and holding the door open for the Captain - and calling him Sir...

Gee it takes HEAPS of skill to fold a map - its easy to see how they can justify paying you more than the average GP.

Lets boycott everyone that doesn't pay as much as you reckon they should.

Prissy Rambo-lina

Rambo-lina
......seems to have a bitter taste in his mouth. Your gutter language and sewrage state of mind perfects your attitude.

Your self indulgence for lambswool seat covers will entitle you to become another QF puppet, and good riddence to bad rubbish.

Virgin must have spurred on this vindictive nature, why? and how?? or is that simply your personality?

...Virgins gain is QF's loss-pity them for having you!

Question QF

Its nice to be popular.
In QF ill get to see the ends of the Earth , be home lots more than a DJ pilot , get paid more as a senior S/o than a DJ Captain, sleep with women who wont come round my house, and ill call the Captain sir, that way i can have some slack to run a business from the jumpseat with all my spare time so if i dont ever get a command ill buy my own jet.
Oh and ID 90 on one world .
Come on DJ pilots give me any reason why your company is better than QF and remember a quick command is not everything.
When you look at the An guys the F/os seem to clean up the Captains on the job front so being a QF f/o gives more options such as EK for example ...

Spruce,

I think your correct,on a closer look at Ramboflyer he does talk about QF in a future 'tense'.

Rambo,

wherever your at with QF,you should know better than to 'burn bridges'. You NEVER know when you may need to use an alternate.Still go and seek help for your condition.

regards, Hoss
