NTL emergency landing
Just recieved multiple notifications that all flights in and out of Newcastle this evening and have been cancelled and diverted due to an emergency landing and an aircraft disabled on the runway. Apparently a Learjet out of Nowra contracted to the ADF with a hydraulic issue. Can anyone confirm this?
RAAF Williamtown either needs to be hardened ( extra runway or widened taxiways ) or the RAAF trains regularly for rapid dispersal. This incident show's its vulnerability.
WLM is no longer protected by the tyranny of distance. Military leadership would be banking on warning time for limited dispersal, however, a cruise missile carrying PLA submarines in the Tasman Sea, would cripple the RAAF within minutes. Look at RAAF Wiliamtown's homepage- it looks like Hickam Field early December 1941.
This isn't a silly prophecy. The USAF is rapidly evolving its tactics in the Pacific to counter a missile barrage.
