Taught during training never to dive under bird's as their survival instinct was to dive except for birds of prey, who owned the sky. So the best option was to go above.

Birds of prey will dive as well - they might own the sky, but they’re smart enough to know when they’re holding a losing hand.

Soared past, close, and around eagles with nary a concern from them. So going above is still the option.

Ah, soaring might be the difference. Head for them in a jet and they’d generally get out of the way quick smart.
