Has QF encircled their pilot supply?
What is very interesting is that slow and steady encirclement. Ponder this.
Firstly QF management actively suppressed promotion, training and recruitment. This created what is now being witnessed; A pilot shortage which ironically is in part self induced.
This is managed by:
Assuming that supply holds, they train an alternative workforce of sufficient magnitude (with Qantas link now including Network) in order to encircle pilot supply.
Relegate the 787 to its real route network (say A330) when finally QF get a LH aircraft (like 777) use the leverage on the 787 contract to contain any advances in remuneration/terms and conditions. The old contract dies out...
The big question is will there be sufficient supply worldwide for this Orwellian wet dream to come to fruition?

This is managed by:
- Fly pilots very close to regulatory limits
- When statutory limits are reached, and crewing shortage induce cancellations the management have created the pretext to wander to Canberra and exclaim the need for foreign pilots
- Give ZERO ground on contracts
- Announce a pilot training college to address the 'shortage'
- Quietly approach government for skill shortage (circa September 2017)
- At first, having a beach head state publicly for Qantas link only...
- First came Jetconnect (no union opposition)
- Then Network aviation with A320 in Qantas colours. (no union opposition)

No..
The entire business model is due for collapse because it fails to keep the business fundamentals alive. The lead up to the US banking meltdown was slow, quiet and usually denied, until it happened.

Do you think they are really that smart ---- serious question??
Manufactured crisis
Nunc est bibendum
Apologies in advance for the vulgarity
With Network/ Cobham/ Jetconnect unable to recruit/ retain pilots due to the poor conditions on offer it looks less like an ‘encirclement’ and more like a circle jerk.
If people still believe their bull****, they need their heads read.
Have you seriously looked at the recruitment going on around the world atm?
If not an actual 'shortage', the days of shaking the tree and hundreds of pilots falling out of them are truly over.

If QF IR know it and do everything to control it, why do the pilot unions not lever it?
If RYR pilots can bring O'Leary to his knees, who after all maintains a highly adversarial model, why can't Australian pilots do the same thing? Is it lack of desire or something more nefarious?
Alliance rejected my latest app because of my lack of multi PIC. I have plenty of turbine PIC but apparently even though it says "500 multi PIC or Turbine command" they actually mean multi PIC.
They can't even tell the truth on their job adverts.

There must be another reason for your unsuccessful application mate as I know someone who’s just got a start with Alliance with only SE turbine command.
I can assure you it was multi PIC. I was asked if I could increase my multi pic by 200 hours in the next 6 months.
They are also not prepared to cover the MCC course cost. I was told not having multi crew time was ok as long as long as I was prepared to pay for MCC or an ATPL check ride.

You would think there was a que or applications a mile long.

The reality is, the conditions are not THAT bad, comparitively speaking, and the majority of pilots are doing 'well enough' to not risk much by getting into a stoush and risking loss of income, or their jobs.
Also, it has been shown, that big business management is more than willing to lose 'other peoples' money (read:shareholders) in an idealogical fight with a labour force. The business might go bankrupt in the meanwhile, management walk out with millions, shareholders lose, and employees lose.
Management know that.

It’s hard to take QF seriously in their pilot shortage claims to government when they have knocked several experienced jet captains who just so happen to fly the 717 for Cobham. The embargo on Cobham 717 pilots that didn’t exist was recently lifted and despite this some pretty experienced and well regarded pilots were turned away. There is indeed a shortage, but while they still believe in being selective, that shortage would appear to relate to honesty and not pilots.

Australian airline management is laughed at from afar.
Their lack of understanding of the industry's twists and turns... because of remaining blinkered on exploiting/delaying EBA's has left them high and dry searching for "liabilities"/pilots (a famous slip by Jimmy Bow-Tie many years ago).
There is no other way to say it.
You reap what you sow!
Pilots are moving to where the best deals are for themselves & family.
The only way Australian airlines Regional & Domestic) can stop that is by matching the T's & C's!
Australia aint that special now buddy.... it's VERY expensive and unsafe/changed in many paces now... and HR"s obnoxiousness isn't helping.
