EK 380
Between flights, quite common to see a wide body being parked at the northern Bravo run up bay during the day to get it off the Apron. Last week they had an EK A380 down the hangar taxiway W.
EK don’t do the Tasman shuttle anymore so one of their MEL 380’s sits around most of the day.

That 45 aircraft number is being bandied around based on a blogger who added up three individual months - May/June/July, this 45 number is just being kicked along as fact but it isn't. The actual highest number of aircraft being parked is in June - being approx 22.

Finally, someone saw the problem with the math in that article....
It’s only 22 aircraft parked!!!
22 aircraft parked due crew shortages is still quite an alarming number. In a fleet of around 250 that represents 9% of their flying assets not earning any revenue.
If for all reasons what is the past average of parked aircraft numbers?

55 x 55 A380,s is a fair number alone on ground if it is for all reasons.

That EK bird has been there a week continuously as best im aware, though i've only seen it between 1200 and 1900 hrs, unless it gets towed there before then and back after that timeframe, then it's been there the whole time.
They have had a few long winded breakdowns in recent weeks causing a few overnights. Aside that you will see them parked for the entire daylight hours in eastern ports during Winter, they don’t depart between 7am-9pm because it doesn’t line up with the large European departure movements. Qatar and Etihad depart mid arvo, EK don’t.
They cut flights mid year every year due low season.

6 EK 380s parked in May . Still deliveries arriving at the same time. These non flyers know how to run an airline.

Everyday EK406 arrives at 5.30AM and departs as EK407 around 2130, and needs to park for the duration.
Over the last few weeks it has not been uncommon for aircraft up to A380 have been parked at the gates behind 9 & 11 and the pax bussed to the terminal - 400+ off the QF94 from LAX on at least 1 day last week.

It flies 28hrs in a 42hr period. Not too bad .
Hopefully the valet parkers on the air-side of the fence are better than the last lot I used at a passenger terminal.
Joint Usage?
05:30 to 21:30 sounds like quite a long time. One could imagine an innovative arrangement between EK and, say, Air New Zealand; while EK don't want it in the day, NZ could hire it to do a quick run across the sea and back to Sydney. EK get a bit of revenue, NZ can lay on a big amount of capacity to Oz without having to actually buy a plane.
