Jetstar Newcastle Foam Bath
According to this site….
Sounds expensive...
"Jetstar A320 VH-VQW, which was under maintenance at Newcastle inside a hangar with all doors open, sustained severe damage to its engines, computer and electrical systems overnight when the hangar fire suppression system was activated and the aircraft was filled with foam."

Didn't see VQC, but then again the picture was taken from a height as there was a lot of foam . Also rumoured that this was not the first time this has happened.

And not just a problem with automated fire suppression systems either.
Earlier this month Virgin Atlantic's inaugural A330 service from Atlanta to Manchester was given the traditional water cannon welcome by the airport fire service as it was taxying in. Unfortunately one of the operators accidentally pressed "foam" instead of "water"! Result....return flight cancelled and aircraft out of action for at least a day or two

No place like foam
Having just recently returned via Williamtown airport,(Newcastle) NSW and seen the recent storm damage around Port Stephens with strong winds and rain bringing down trees and power lines leaving many areas of Port Stephens, Nelson bay, NSW without power for days. I was intrigued to see this article in The Age on damage to two Jetstar A320 hangared but damaged due to the foam fire supression system being set off by the storm.
Jetstar planes out for another two weeks following Newcastle bubble bath
More information would be appreciated.
As an airport Williamtown is special. Where else can you see the RAAF planes taking off and landing while you wait for your civilian flight. With long association with the region having seen Vampires, Mirage, Aeromacchi and more recent Raaf aircraft operating at Williamtown it is one of our more interesting airports.

Have a nice month.
I think there is a thread running in the Australian part of this site.
I think http://www.pprune.org/australia-new-...foam-bath.html is it.

Unfortunately it does not just wash away. Engine manufacturers claim that when washed with water it becomes more of a corrosive hazard.
Interesting to gauge JQs reaction. When this happened at JHAS they called for heads to roll and threats to pull all contracts. Some amazing wisdom from interesting characters with leprechauns on their backs.... So much for a just culture... Some say this was the final act that made JQ and Tiger walk away..

So reactivate Avalon, eh! As far as I know the hangar there had no built-in fire suppression. When one arrived in a 747 for maintenance the first thing done was to drain the tanks into a road tanker. The same fuel went back in when the aircraft came back out. I was never sure how it was that an empty tank full of residual vapour was safer than a tank with liquid fuel in it but hey, I don't make the rules.
