Porch, they had been that run for about 14yrs!!

The cost of overnighting crew would be less than the current outcome.

Capt BB I think you believe your own hype & that put out by QF staff pretending to b the public, about how bad TT are. Some of the mud has stuck.

Yes TT don't have a lot of back up, or at least they didn't in the past.

TT grounding (very dodgy decision by someone at CASA) didn't help.

Now big brother is around in the form of VA/NZ, I think if a TT bus goes U/S & a VA or NZ aircraft flying same route at similar time, pax might get put on that aircraft or v.v.

Have half the people bad mouthing Tigerair ever actually been on any of their flights?

There are a lot of people there who take great pride in their airline. Safe to say it's a far cry from what it was 7 years ago.

No doubt that may be the case, Morno. I personally know a few people at TT who are as capable & professional as they come. Unfortunately, most of us also know it's not what's real but what's perceived that matters - and as far as perceptions go, the Tiger brand is toxic. Which is a real shame for the dedicated, hard-working TT professionals you and I refer to. I really do hope that perception changes in time...

I have to disagree. I think the perceptions of those on PPrune are that it's toxic, but the actual public perception appears to be turning in favour of Tigerair. It would be no worse than how the public perceive Jetstar.

Fair enough. I'm an infrequent visitor to PPRuNe Land these days, so I won't dispute you, but with regard to my own circle of friends and acquaintances, I stand by my previous comment. I also concede that I haven't flown with them either, so I take your point. Nevertheless people I know who've flown with TT have told me that the flight itself is not what left a sour taste in their mouths, but everything that happened before & after. That said, I personally bear TT no ill will & hope things continue to get better.

When tiger goes tits up do the pax get transferred to virgin???

If they do that just about negates the only problem with flying with tiger.

I actially paid retail for a flight last night...first time in decades. I could have opted for Tiger as a consumer experiment but I had to get to my destination that night. My circle of friends includes some who have flown Tiger (since the Virgin buy) but zero who would fly them again.

They would almost be better off renaming it rather than spend the advertising dollars rehabilitating the brand.

By the way...I chose Jetstar. Half full, and surprisingly good. The experience was at least as good as any US domestic carrier, as much as it pains me to say it.

Well....Tiger got me out of a jam last week when Jetstar decided to cancel my international flight...on the morning of the flight. In fact, Tiger departed 15 minutes early and arrived 30 minutes early. The in-flight service was no different to any other LCC and my bags actually arrived. No complaints.

If they had flown Tiger, they would know that there's stuff all difference these days.

Must be a lot of very worried QF/JQ staff out there.

Why would QF/JQ staff be worried?

Who knows maybe they will rebrand. Maybe even a few ads with Tiger staff driving around in MG's.

for a start TT will take a lot of business off JQ trans-tasman.

Who knows TT could even end up doing some NZL domestic.

All they would need is a base in AKL.

So Basil, you're saying the constant complaints from the crew WRT back of clock operations on that particular pairing, and via VIPA especially, to the PWC, had NO bearing on the company giving it away to Tiger? I'd love to believe you , but.......

Since you didn't answer my question last time, I'll try again. How much of YOUR money are you willing to put up into these fantasies, BNEA?

Porch, the people making those decisions wouldn't even know about crew whinging about a shortish, 1 sector back of the clock flight. The return pairing (which some people actually bid for) had finished well before the change.
You seem happy to see VA gifting profitable routes away to TT. Why is that?

You better learn to read. Nowhere did I say I was happy about it. Simple statement of fact, friend. You deny it was continually raised at the PWC? I would rather they get given F@ck all. Unfortunately, I think it is just the start.

JohnMcGhie -
I felt sorry for the poor sods trundling onto a Tiger flight in Cairns for a non-stop to Perth. But Sydney to Melbourne, why not?
How many years ago was that? The only airline now flying non-stop CNS-PER or PER-CNS is JQ. I flew JQ PER-CNS 6 weeks ago and there's little difference between JQ and TigerAir. I also flew TigerAir CNS-BNE 2 weeks later, and the experience was little different to JQ.
Well, I thought it was "last year", but I see now it was nearly two year's ago. And yes, there's a reason I was not on JQ either :-)

I used to go to Sydney on the dear old COMFORTABLE 767's...

Of course I have flown TT :-)

John McG-don't think u have actually flown TT. If u had u would note SFA difference between TT, JQ, VA & QF domestically, except for maybe baggage claim areas & TT's aircraft are newer, MUCH newer.
Of course I have flown TT, and I would do so again. Last trip to Adelaide I tried to book TT.

Sydney busses and trains are nice and new too: and I am on them every day.

Not overly comfortable, but perfectly functional.

My point would be that while I know the guys and girls at QF try hard, they product is not "better". Although their price is usually a little higher.

If I am paying (and usually, I am...) TT is the first place I look.

"The experience was at least as good as any US domestic carrier, as much as it pains me to say it."

If that's not the most oxymoronic comment I've seen posted on this fair site in about a thousand years, I'll go he!!

What a kack (or is it cack)?

That's like saying that driving a Tata is at least as good as driving a Lada.

Or that eating raw bulls testicles isn't nearly so bad as eating sheeps eyes.

What a pointless, useless, and (if A was to be truthful to himself) not entirely truthful comment (reply).

Don't see that (personally)

What do you REALLY need for a domestic 1-4 hour sector??

What is the DIFFERENCE with an 8 - 12 hour International sector??

Things ARE changing, WILL change....and survivability tends to be afforded to those who (whilst decrying the changing environment) do change.

Right or wrong things will change....as proof just ask the dinosaurs!!

Apparently AirAsia now offering flat beds in Business - as they may define it - (no idea of food and grog) into Oz for $800 AUD or so.

If you THINK things should be as they were 10-15-20 years ago that's fine, nostalgia/history/reminiscing are all great parts of life.

If you honestly THINK things should be as they were 10-15-20 years ago....serious reality check happening at some time in the not-too-distant-future.

Of course just IMHO, could be completely wrong.
See what time decides!

Cheers!
