Virgin ATR's To The Apple Isle
According to the Brisbane refueller the ATR's are expanding their network to include Launceston from the 1st of November.
No more EMB190/B737 overnighters for the Virgin lads, Virgin ATR vs Qantas Dash8-400 for the daily double!
Are Skywest getting more airframes or just adjusting schedules?

Good, never liked going there in the first place. Nice towns and people, but from a flying point of view (CTA/DME steps) I'd rather avoid it. If the loads pick up they could try the F100 on the route.

What would you rather ILS to ILS? How boring you sound.

Interesting match of aircraft types on the MEL LST, giving the punters a reasonable choice of times and aircraft types. Looks like JQ will be the only jet operator and should pickup a better percentage of the available traffic.
The launch of ATRs on MEL-LST will probably also lead to the beginning of MEL-DPO. The local council there has been trying to get VA to fly there for ages. QF Link currently charge extortionate fares on MEL-LST with the only current competition being REX flying into BWT 50kms up the road.

Agree that Melbourne to Mildura would be a logical look for VA ATR's as this would have to be much better finanial performance than the current E-190 on Mildura, particularly with 3 airlines servicing Mildura.
VA jets will still fly to LST, only 1-2 services out of 4-5 per day will be ATR. HUge saving on HOTAC, 4 crew instead of 10-12 min per night, and no need for an engineer based there.
Interesting times for VA E Jet pilots with the WA goings on.

Looks like the Eastern schedule from 1990.
06:30 Depart LT
08:00 Arrive ML
09:00 Depart ML
10:00 Arrive DPO
10:30 Depart DPO
11:30 Arrive ML
Throw in a CB return and then repeat the process in the afternoon with the aircraft back into Launceston at 20:00.
