OK, my bad! I took the time to go through some old plans & found some tankering sectors - MLE, BEY, ISB. But not AMM for some reason. Sorry, my mind grows dim & I should have checked before shooting my mouth off!

However, I guess the point I was trying to make is that if fuel in DXB was so cheap that it gave EK a significant advantage against other airlines, as some suggest it is, EK would be tankering to MTOW (or MLW less buffer, if limiting) on almost every sector out of DXB. And that is just not the case.

People seem to make assumptions such as - Middle Eastern country - produces oil, so fuel very cheap for locals - EK must get it so cheap that they have an unfair advantage. I believe that most, if not all, on this forum have no idea what EK, or any airline for that matter, actually pays for its fuel anywhere in the world.

latest web postings are that Ukraine fired MRBMs at Eastern Ukraine which were intercepted and shot down by Russian federation ABM's. That means that entire Ukrainian airspace is no go since those things go kms up.

Capt Rex, as of last week..

Some example destinations are Kuwait, Addis Ababa,Doha,Muscat,Khartoum,Sanaa', just to name a few.
Kuwait no…
Addis no…
Doha no…
Muscat yes…
Khartoum no…
Sanaa…who cares

I tankered about 25T or so out of KWI the other night, and the next sector was a trip to JED.
Regarding QF routing, raced QF 10 back to DXB the other day all across turkey, they turned right a little earlier and went down over Iraq, we headed a little further east and went down via Iran.

Hi Haughtney1- I have definitely tankered on all of those destinations at some point in time in the past.

EK may be not overflying IRAQ - but they sure are still flying into IRAQ.

Risk Assessment?

Rex, the messages coming from those in the higher floors would suggest they have recalculated the risk, but yes as far as I can tell Basra, Baghdad and Erbil are still on the schedule. Erbil for me is the riskiest in terms of proximity, but Baghdad isn't exactly Kansas either!
Word is that the SAS and elements of US special forces have been on the ground for a while around Mosul, lets hope they have better luck than when they were scud hunting….

EK may be not overflying IRAQ -
EK are still overflying Iraq in numbers. At one point yesterday there were 12 EK aircraft over Iraq and there are 5 overhead Iraq now according to FlightRadar24.

The media have interpreted some very cleverly worded press releases and 'door-stops' by Emirates sources suggesting/implying that they will cease overflying Iraq as an intention to actually do so. They have not actually said they will.

The reason QF cannot fly over Iranian airspace is due to Aust Govt autonomous sanctions that prevent payment to Iranian authorities /financial institutions in line with UN Security Council Resolutions
