Emirates A380 has "smoky landing" at YMML

Wow, no doubt about the quality of journalism (or is that an oxymoron) from the good old Herald Sun!

No Cookies | Herald Sun

A few pearlers from the story:

"An Emirates spokeswoman said the smoke was caused by a tyre making contact with the runway."

“The engineers undertook a thorough check and found the smoke to be the result of a regular occurrence caused by a tyre which has not been in motion in the air, making contact with a stationary runway."

I'm not a pilot but isn't the general idea that the tyres make contact with the runway?

Cheers,
John

The runway was stationary? Hadn't the runway been activated so that it was moving? Is this an ATC error or a pilot error?
