JQ Domestic expansion
Jetstar will add:
- 21 return services per week between Sydney and Melbourne from 16 August 2012
- Seven return services per week between Sydney and Adelaide from 15 November 2012
- Seven return services per week between Sydney and Ballina-Byron from 18 April 2013
- Seven return services per week between Sydney and the Gold Coast from 18 April 2013
- Three return services per week between Adelaide and the Gold Coast from 18 April 2013
- Four return services per week between Newcastle and the Gold Coast from 18 April 2013

Jetstar adds more Tasmania Flights

So by peak season JQ will make daily:
HBA-MEL x 7
LST-MEL x 5.5
HBA-SYD x 4
LST-SYD x 3
HBA-OOL x 1
LST-BNE x 1
Looks like extra HBA-SYD and LST-MEL start on Aug 16, with extra HBA-MEL and LST-SYD starting Nov 15.
Big increase in seats with more added from Tiger and Virgin will become a bloodbath on yields. Good for the consumer though.
Budget airline Jetstar is boosting the number of flights to Tasmania.
The airline will start increasing services from August 16.
Seven additional return flights a week will run between Sydney and Hobart, with an extra seven between Melbourne and Launceston.
The budget carrier says there will also be more flights between Sydney and Launceston and Melbourne and Hobart in November, in time for Tasmania's peak summer tourism period.
The increase means there will be an extra 408,000 seats between Tasmania and other states next financial year.
Jetstar spokesman David Koczkar says there is a strong demand for access to the state.
"At the moment we're focussing our growth today on flights between Hobart and Launceston to Melbourne and Sydney which are our biggest markets."

In the meantime, Qantas is reducing services to force pax onto Jetstar. eg this coming Sunday from the 0905 service on, instead of flying hourly as they used to, the QF services are 2 hours apart and there's not a single seat available through the middle of the day. Management are becoming brazen and bold now - they no longer need to disguise the fact that they are running mainline down.

Pfft. We're 'adding' 7 flights a week between SYD and MEL. One a day. Big deal. We cancel more than that on a weekly basis. 22 flights a week on east coast services is bugger all. It's barely one aeroplane's worth of flying.

Hearing some nasty rumours from FNQ that as a result of article in Cairns Post that QF Lames in Cairns facing possible redundancies due to loss of work and JQ needing more Lames. Anyone in FNQ or anywhere confirm or just another rumour?

I have to agree. Why would the buisness class pax go to jetstar? Surely a hop accross to Virgin would be a better move. Maybe the plan is to run the whole damn lot into the ground

Jetstar is ramping up its services in-and-out of Cairns, with a total net increase of more than 200,000 additional seats planned during the next financial year.
In Cairns for the announcement, Jetstar Australia & New Zealand CEO David Hall said the increase would encourage more people to visit one of the country’s top tourist destinations.
“This is great news for holidaymakers and the tourism industry of Far North Queensland,” said Mr Hall.
“We know that low fares encourage new travel demand by putting places like Cairns within reach for more people, particularly families.
“Cairns is already one of the most popular destinations on our network, so we expect to see an increase in holiday makers from the southern states coming in search of some sun.”
This latest boost from Jetstar follows an increase of four extra services between Cairns and Melbourne that started on 1 April 2012, and will come into effect after the Jetstar Japan domestic network takes off on 3 July 2012.
Today’s announcement is part of a major increase to Jetstar’s total domestic capacity by more than 1.2 million seats during 2012/13. Existing routes receiving additional capacity in addition to Cairns include Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Ballina-Byron, Newcastle, the Gold Coast, Hobart and Launceston.
Mr Hall said the launch of Jetstar’s low fares domestic network in Japan – which in April offered promotional fares of less than one cent – would potentially increase traffic on existing Osaka-Cairns and Tokyo-Cairns services.
The Queensland Minister of Tourism, Major events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games the Hon Jann Stuckey MP.
“This is great news for Queensland’s tourism industry and a thriving tourist industry is vital to the state’s economy,” Ms Stuckey said.
“I congratulate Jetstar on their commitment to the Cairns and Coolangatta markets which will help us create more jobs and opportunities for Queenslanders.
“Tourism is one of the Newman Government’s four economic pillars, and we are working hard every day to grow the industry.”
CEO of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Rob Giason said “News of additional seats for Cairns from strategically important markets supports our identified potential for growth. We are chasing 700,000 inbound seats so this is an excitingly positive announcement. It demonstrates the confidence Jetstar has in the region, and hopefully this confidence will have a significant rub-on effect.”
As part of this capacity increase for northern Queensland, in September Jetstar will increase services between Melbourne and Townsville by three services a week in September to seven per week up from four.
In addition to capacity increases, Jetstar will replace Qantas services on the Cairns-Sydney route from 23 August.
