AirAsia X new destination to Sydney

New destination to Australian market for AirAsia as below

SYDNEY, 17 JANUARY 2012
- AirAsia X is expanding its network further into Australia with the introduction of flights to Sydney from Kuala Lumpur.

From April 1, 2012, AirAsia X, the long-haul low fare affiliate of AirAsia, will fly daily from its hub in Kuala Lumpur to Kingsford Smith International Airport, Sydney.

As a gesture of thanks to AirAsia X’s guests for their unequivocal support, AirAsia X will be offering launch fares to Sydney from Kuala Lumpur from as low as RM199*one way on Economy and from just RM999* one way on its Premium Fly Flatbeds.

The Kuala Lumpur - Sydney route will also provide access toover 80 destinations across 165 routes in Asia and beyond. Sydney will be AirAsia X’s fourth Australian destination after Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth. The route will also be the city’s only direct long-haul, low fare service to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The new service was officially announced today at the rooftop of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), which overlooks the panoramic view of the Sydney Harbour. The announcement was made by AirAsia X CEO, Azran Osman-Rani. Also present were AirAsia X Chairman, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Destination New South Wales CEO, Sandra Chipchase, Sydney Airport Executive Director of Aviation Services, Shelley Roberts, tourism authorities, business partners and members of the media.


“Our entry into Sydney is a culmination of a dream of everyone involved with AirAsia X, in particular our Group CEO, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes. Over the last four years, ‘We’ve believed the Unbelievable. Dreamt the Impossible. Never took No for an Answer’. We are finally here in Sydney and we are here to offer guests the opportunity to experience our growing network across Australia.” said a delighted Mr Azran Osman-Rani.

“Australia is a key market for AirAsia X and the Sydney route has long been a priority due to strong demand from travelers across the globe especially Asia.”

“Our goal has always been to make international travel affordable for everyone, and now guests can explore Sydney, Australia across our growing network at affordable low fares.”

Sydney will also be available for Fly-thru bookings from Indonesia (Bali, Medan, Surabaya, Jakarta), Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket), Singapore, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City). The Fly-thru service allows passengers to seamlessly purchase two flight sectors and connect via Kuala Lumpur.

The deals are available until sold out for online bookings from 11:00am (+8GMT) today, 17th to 22nd January, 2012 for the travel period from 1st April to 27 October, 2012. For more details, log on to www.airasia.com.

Must visit areas in Sydney are the Rocks, a district which showcases an ever changing range of art, fashion, homewares, jewelry and gifts, deliciously diverse range of places to wine and dine, entertainment, Australia’s oldest architecture with historical laneways and cobblestone streets; the popular Bondi Beach, one of Australia's most famous beaches and among the most well-known in the world.

Not to be missed iconic views and image of Sydney and Australia are the Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House; one of the 20th century's most distinctive buildings and most famous performing arts centres in the world sits.

Must tour places in Sydney include the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley where wildlife and wine tasting becomes an experience to remember.


NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Event, George Souris said, “AirAsia X’s new service gives tourists from Malaysia and China and other growing markets more choice on how to fly here and enjoy the many attractions and major events we have on offer in Sydney and NSW.

Destination NSW CEO, Sandra Chipchase said, “Destination NSW in conjunction with Sydney Airport, Tourism Australia and AirAsia X will be investing in a two-year marketing and promotion plan for the new AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur to Sydney route. We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with AirAsia X to increase visitation from some of our key international markets.”


The Kuala Lumpur - Sydney route will be operated on the Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a configuration of 12 Premium fly flatbed seats and 365 Economy seats.

AirAsia X was the first long-haul, low fare carrier to introduce Flatbed seats, which have standard business class specifications of 20” width, 60” pitch and stretch out to 77” in full recline position.

The Premium fly flatbeds feature universal power sockets, adjustable headrests and built-in personal utilities such as tray table, drink holder, reading light and privacy screen. Premium seat guests also enjoy premium complimentary products and services including Pick A Seat, Priority Check-in, Priority Boarding, Priority Baggage, 20kg Baggage Allowance, Complimentary Meal and Pillow & Blanket.


AirAsia X launched in Australia in November 2007 with Gold Coast as its first destination. Perth and Melbourne were added a year later. AirAsia’s affiliate Indonesia AirAsia also flies daily flights to Bali from Perth and four times weekly from Darwin.
