Where to for Jetstar?

Numerous speculation being thrown around about what will happen to Qantas.. But what about Jetstar?

Will Jetstar get all 110 A320's based in Australia? Upgrade the seating to become a business/premium economy to challenge Virgin?
Will Jetstar be sold off if the sales act is strengthened?
Will Jetstar be 'bought' by Qantas and be painted in Qantas colours, effectively a 'b scale' pay rate to fly a Qantas aircaft..? (aka jitconnekt)..

Yep, now that RedQ seems to be dead in the water, Jetstar will get all 117 A320's on order, the majority of them will be based in Singapore and Japan. A few of them (20ish) will be painted in Qantas colours and configured with a premium and economy cabin, with most being based in Asia and a few based in New Zealand. Jetconnect will be shut down with the flying out of NZ to be taken over by the even cheaper Jetstar pilots.

They are going to lead a revolution in the principality of Hutt river. Clifford will become the monarch (HRH Prince Leigh), Boston Bruce the Jester and Joyce the cabin boy. The Airline will be based there and all employees will become employed under favourable conditions. Unionism will become punishable by death.

I would say OPTION 3

What's stopping them repainting the A320's, painting a kangaroo on the bum and dressing the girls in boomerangs?

Look at:

"TED" - United's "low cost start-up" - rebranded "United" but same T&C's
"FREEDOM AIR" - Air NZ low cost - everytime you fly on an Air NZ A320 now it's Freedom T&C's
"Australian Airlines Wet Lease" - Though short-lived, there you had I know tech crew in QF uniforms operating services on behalf of big brother in 5 x 767's?

Really? Not sure the pilots would agree with that.

I thought the man at the bank had said no to the money, therefor no new aircraft. Surely if QF international can't afford any jetstar would need to spend their profit on it.

Me thinks Benny Boy at Crikey is close to the money.
The eventual, if not imminent sale of Jetstar as a trans border franchise and low fare Australian domestic and international operation must offer the clearest potential for carving up Qantas and taking off with the cash.
What I don't understand, is why good old Benny thinks it's not such a good idea. Afterall, one could be forgiven for thinking it would be Qantas and its dividend starved shareholders making off with the cash.

Sell a large or part stake in JQ. Keep some to have seat at the table and protect the groups interests.

Its being tarted up as a super business. Eddington did it to Ansett and NZ got sucked into buying it.

QAN shareholders get a payday. Mainline can sink or swim of its own accord and hopefully get some badly needed $$ & attention from those above.
Pipe dream perhaps but if the board are truly focused on getting a return on the investment it has cost QAN it may just be done.

Romper Room

Agree with Option #3.

This whole tawdry episode has been a smoke screen for the rise and rise of JQ-nothing else.

Red Q...................'as if !!

These pariah's -masquerading as "Business People"..... CEO, Chairperson / Board care only about the $$$$$$ ........owing to THEM.

Hopefully, Ben Sandilands is carefully documenting this "story" because it will go down as one of the most disgraceful examples of corporate thuggery/ deceit / greed in Aust corporate history AND it started way back in 2002. The Enron and One-Tel saga's will be like watching an episode of Romper Room in comparison.

They've already been there done that with the A330's.

You ask about the Furphy- off subject but an interesting yarn. I wonder if "toughen up Princesses" will stand the test of time

The Famous Furphy Water Cart | Furphys | Water, Were, Furphy, Cart

I like the bit about the cart driver spreading rumours. Reminiscent of the modern day Townville refueller!
