John Borghetti awarded CEO of the year
John Borghetti was awarded CEO of the Year at the Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation conference in Singapore last night.*
He was judged as having the greatest individual influence on the Asia Pacific aviation industry in 2011.* This is an internationally recognised honour from CAPA, the leading provider of independent aviation market intelligence, analysis and data services and worldwide developments.**

Well deserved, haven't seen the Virgin troops this happy for a long time.
But have to ask, does anyone in the industry really care what the CAPA say? I found whatever they spruik from time to time totally ill informed and wrong.
Not taking anything away from JB, I think he is doing a fantastic job. Now give him back!!!!!!

J.B.
Met John on a couple of occasions when he worked for the company whose name we dare not speak. Dammit. Qantas.
A real gentleman. Genuinely concerned for what I was saying and even followed up with an email several days later to say he had taken on board my comments.
Congratulations JB. Now come back!

how's their profit looking? not trying to hate - I am jealous of the virgin employees' affection for him but how are the numbers stacking up?

The profit I think this year will (especially first half) will be very healthy alot of flexi fares being sold alot of premium market coming over from disgruntled QF flyers.
Congrats to JB he has set a goal for Virgin Australia and he wont take his eyes of what he wants to achieve, yeah Im on less money than my QF counterpart, but I would much rather be where I am now thanks very much

So long as the yield is returning the continuing capital they've having to invest to improve and develop their product?
I understand they're paying for everything with cash-flow only...

I'd rather be where you are now too vb guy I'm sick of doing my damnedest for qf and being treated as a liability. I'd take a pay cut (no not of 50% as aj initially said, or of 30% as qf internal propaganda now bleats about) to feel part of a company moving forward and to feel appreciated for doing my best.

So how much of a pay cut would make you happy? Jetstar paycheck or Virgin paycheck? BTW get back to me six months after you've adjusted to the new salary and let me know how high the happiness quotient has risen.

For years I was always under the impression that we at Virgin earned considerably less than at The Rat. However, a while back I compared numbers with a mate of mine on the 737 at QF - & I remember being quite surprised. Same aeroplane & same job description, yes, but it's not quite comparing apples with apples as I thought. For example, we get tax-free allowance, & from memory I think his was non tax-free DTA. Then there's other factors like overtime threshold & a whole host of other considerations.
The thing to remember is that a true comparison can't be made with something like just the base salary, but rather the "real" take-home pay at the end of the day. When I looked at what I earned in the previous financial year vs what he earned over the same period, there actually wasn't all that much in it. And I'm working in a far more progressive & enjoyable environment. No, I think I'll stay right where I am.

Money and Satisfaction in the Workplace
There are a number of factors that contribute to satisfaction in any workplace.Reading some of these posts one could draw the conclusion that there is only one contributing factor:~ money.
How sad.
Respect,Inclusion,Pride,Professionalism,Vision,Direction,Car eer Path are some of the other factors that for many rate higher than having the highest remuneration in the industry.
Put simply it is perhaps more conducive to work for less and be happy in your work when other factors contribute to engagement with the business
If and when a choice of employ comes down to Qantas or Virgin, currently Virgin wins hands down.
Unless of course money is the only thing that divines your prong.
Earn the bucks,be miserable, work for the rat and bitch about it on PPrune.
Anyway I digress .Well done JB.A very worthy recipient

Bunglerat, I was referring to long haul op's, which I gather is the crux of the problem.
That comparison won't be so evenly weighted.
It's worth noting that VA long haul is now making money, due to JB's stategic initiatives...to drag the thread back.
