Part 66 time only 6 business days away

At a rough estimate what percentage of the LAMEs in your local workplace have received their new Part 66 license. Only 6 business days to go and I would say only 15 percent of the staff have received their new licenses. Am predicting a **** storm ahead.

I predict both....My intel informs me that Fort Fumble are running around like lunatics trying to manage the fire they started.

I just received mine in the mail today. What I did find was that the errors contained in the draft where still there, even after putting in a discrepancy resolution form over 6 weeks ago.
One thing I do note is, CAO 100.66 Appendix 2 has been amended in the last few weeks. I wonder if this will be further amended before the 27th. Being a B2 I will be glad not to have that damn chapter 36 E jet ODS ever again. Or the chapter 32 landing gear micro switchers on metros, although it does look like I might be doing IDGs with the full B1s

Fourply, might pay to read the MOS Part 66 on the casa website. Particularly this section:

Manual of Standards Part 66 Instrument 2011
6. A person who holds a Category B2 licence may perform maintenance certification for Category B2 maintenance carried out on an aircraft if:

(i) the person carried out the maintenance; and

(ii) the maintenance was carried out:

(A) on an aircraft system designated in Table 1 as avionic or electrical; or

(B) on an instrument or electrical subsystem of an aircraft system designated in Table 1 as structural, powerplant or mechanical;
Don't forget your landing gear switch rigging just yet! Broadly speaking, if you could certify for it as an EIR, you can still certify for it as a B2.

Angry New Part 66 CAT A Licenses - Shame CASA

The introduction of the new part 66 "CAT A" Engineering licenses is a degradation of the licensing system in Australia, which up until now has kept the traveling public as safe as possible.
From the 27th of June an unlicensed PERSON can now be approved by the company to sign an aircraft out of ANY check, up to, and including a weekly check, as serviceable to fly, without certification by a L.A.M.E., as long as the PERSON does the check on his own.
It also includes the ability for him to apply MEL's in the Tech Log

Maybe it should have been called the 666 license.

How do our pilots and the public feel about this?

It's not about Coneheads or Numbskulls. This is seriously wrong.
It's about the future of aviation in Australia.

NO SMOKING HOLES IN THE GROUND, EVER !

Part 66

As a LAME who has spent most of my career living and working in remote ares I wonder how the new system is going to work in the real GA. In places like Kununnurra, Port Hedland, Broome and the like. Having someone who is not fully conversant on electrical and instruments at the level where fixing the unit is more likely to happen than going to the store and getting a new one off the shelf means that some of the new privileges are little more than a trap for someone to walk into. After all in aviation maintenance "It is what you don't know that may kill someone else!"

Question Nationwide LAME eba debacle CAR to 66

I can see a major pay debacle coming up with the introduction of this system for engineers from GA to airlines - Fixed and Rotary. As a lot of EBA's have been signed off 12-24 months ago there are no provisions (in the eba's) for the changeover. An example is if you a had a mixed fleet of lower group and group 20 aircraft - most multi-engine turbine is now a Group 20 equivalent which is usually a higher paid rating. How the hell are engineers going to work this out with their respective HR department. I think the ALAEA hotline is going to go into overdrive.

And gee I wonder how many guys will certify out of category with this very basic easy to understand system.

"From 27 June 2011 CAR 31 licences will no longer be valid and LAMEs will need to have a Part 66 licence."

Correct.....Be carefull...(and be sure to use your correct Licence Number)

And surprise surprise a constant update of the PART 66 MOS. What a crock, seriously what is next. If they can't get this right now what hope do we have in the future. Cheers CASA for making the most complex licencing system in the world.
