Boeing miscalculated risks!
I wonder how many older B737's are in our skies and in neighbours around us that have 30,000 hours or more on them?

I'm sure Olivia from Qantas will soon be telling all and sundry not to worry about Qantas' really, really, old ,clapped out 737's as the tea lady at engineering has had a look and every thing appears OK and is definitely worlds best practice!
PS: those pesky pilots have little to worry about 'cos if they only work 17hrs a week the law of averages say there is little chance anything will actually happen to one of them!

Re: 737s in the region with 30K+ cycles that have affected line numbers (this determines the type of manufacturing they received that makes them susceptible to the cracks), it's 1 from Qantas and 4 from Air NZ. Other Air NZ aircraft are coming close to 30K.

At least Boeing comes out and owns up to the fact it may have miscalculated the likelihood of fatigue occurring earlier than they thought.
While it's not great news, they have at least made the frank disclosure, for which they should be commended.
Strikingly different behaviour than was initially evident from a certain illustrious engine maker when a turbine disc parted company from its coaxial colleagues in a spectacular fashion recently.
Just saying.
