Can Any Idiot Fly A Jetliner?

Well it appears your bluff has been called folks.

Jetstar believes it can take paying cadets with aptitude and train them to be effective pilots of commercial jet aircraft at a fraction of the price they now pay for experienced pilots.

In short, they believe that they don't have to pay for experience, because experience is without value in their world.

You are cloud bunnies, Aerosexuals.

They also believe pilots are overpaid and have working conditions not justified by their actual workload - a situation they will now correct via the cadets.

So we are in for a great experiment folks, the only trouble is that management is gambling with borrowed stakes - the lives of the general public and the shareholders funds.

I wonder who will win?

I also wonder if the ATSB will suppress the transcript when the inevitable Colgan happens?

To put it another way, why did the American airline industry roll over without a whimper when the FAA made 1500 hours mandatory?

The answer: shame.
