A330 Schedule announced.
Virgin says A330 services to start May
Updated: 10:48, Monday April 4, 2011
Virgin Blue Holdings Ltd says its Sydney-Perth flights using wide-bodied Airbus A330 aircraft will start on Thursday, May 26.
Australia's number two carrier says the introduction of the new service marked the first time in almost a decade that travellers would have a choice for domestic business class in the local market.
'We will be offering very competitive fares on the new service, bringing competition back to business class travel, as well as continuing to provide great value in economy class,' Virgin Blue chief executive John Borghetti said in a statement on Monday.
The inaugural A330 flight was scheduled to depart Sydney at 0800 AEST, with the return flight leaving Perth at 1300 AWST.
Virgin Blue said business class fares on the Sydney to Perth route would cost from $1,399 one-way, booked on the internet.
A dummy booking on the Qantas website showed one-way business class airfares on flights leaving at a similar time were $1,445 one-way.
Virgin Blue said it would deploy the A330s once a day between Sydney and Perth between May 26 and June 5, with the frequency to double between June 6 and July 3.
The airline will use its A330s to fly three times a day - leaving Sydney at 0800, 1730 and 2000 AEST and departing Perth at 0545, 1230 and 2355 AWST - from July 4 onwards.
Virgin Blue had previously announced it would take delivery of two Airbus A330s - previously used by Emirates - this year, with two new A330s fresh off the production line, due to arrive in 2012.
At 1015 AEST, Virgin Blue was down half a cent at 31 cents.

Most leases have language saying that any parts replacement must be by newer parts than the bit being taken off, mostly to prevent dodgy part installation near end of lease. Of course, checking that it hasn't happened is difficult...

It seems like Borghetti's glossy pictures of the A330 and its business class barber chairs have as much cred as Buchanan's attempts to explain himself at a Senate inquiry.

If this configuration is, in fact, correct, that makes for disappointing news. The market, as I undertsand it, has stated emphatically that a middle seat in Business Class is simply not the way to go.
And by the way, Burrito, Virgin's A330s are RR Trent equipped, not CF6.

I saw the plain white 330 taking off at sydney the other day, followed by a chopper that looked to be filming it. Was wondering if the white aircraft could be to symbolise something Virginal?
With regard to the name change, if they are dropping the virgin bit, they could show the white aircraft, followed by the one in the new colours, with some clever line like "we're not virgins anymore!"
Or they could be putting the livery in digitally as previously suggested.

Psssst........... wanna know the truth........ well do ya?
Truth is the 330 is really a 737-800.
Have you ever seen those movies where the main character rips off his face to reveal their true identity.
Mark my words, the A330 will peel back to reveal a 737-800 with Brett Godfrey at the controls, laughing in a deranged manner whilst stroking a pure white cat.

If they launch this A330 in white or another with silly AFL decals its going to look second rate and pathetic.
Spare me.
