The other week I had a bunch of VB cabin crew in the bus from hotel to airport, all gloating over QF's recent run of bad luck. Jokes aside, it wasn't long before I felt compelled to remind them that, in the words of the great Earl Hickey, "Karma's a bitch," and what goes around comes around.
Bunglerat
You're absolutely right.
It's hard to imagine that, after 10 years of BG and Co, VB is immune to the types of problems QF are currently dealing with. Unless JB is able to quickly immunize the organisation from the previous culture, then I am afraid our turn will probably come. Let's hope we can cope with it as well as QF has. i.e Safely.

apparently real food was found on board with a nice inviting aroma.
Nobody recognised it hence the turnback.

captwawa - the 'gloating' from QF started when DJ went all out to gloat about thier OTP figures after the engineering strike, in particular all the signage around the Sydney terminal. If an airline has something to be proud of, it is no surprise they will promote it.

I knew a long time ago to never gloat at your competitior, you will learn very quickly that it will come back to bite you one day.
We would actually sympathise when our competitior had issues,we knew very well that your turn would be next!!

Qantas traditionally wouldn't get involved in the slanging matches and personally I think its the way to go. I'd hope vb drop it soon as well. Its unbecoming in my opinion.
As for CC on the bus. Well thats what ipods and iphones/itunes were invented for wasn't it? On bus - earphones in.

VB/VA don't get off lightly. 2 x 777's damaged in L.A, 737 dropped in N.Z, 737 almost written off a few weeks back with a massive gash down the starboard side.
Admittedly none of these occurences occured at 30 000 feet at say 460 knots but remember the James Reason Model......

*sigh*
That 73 with the hole in the side was nowhere near "nearly written off." I've re-skinned bigger areas than that in routine heavy maintenance.
Now, everybody, It doesn't matter what company you work for, repeat after me: "There but for the grace of God goes I."

I won't disgree, the job in itself was not the biggest any of us have taken on in our career, I am more concerned about the frequency of the Group's incidents and so forth that I have observed to be rising in the past 18 months or so. Routine maintenance is one thing, this type of damage and some of the underlying factors in this case is a different story..

Having Boeing come to look at it still does not constitute a near write off. All that a statement like does is blow out things out of proportion
Things like that happen everywhere, all the time. To every company. If they didn't, Boeing wouldn't have an AOG team.
To be honest, VB don't get nearly as much ramp rash as Ansett ever did.

There is something a little cheesey about your earlier comments Cactus
Others could argue that there is holes in your comments
