In a nutshell...
A whole lot of chest beating, rhetoric and non-action. A member asked "what are we planning to do about this?" with a typical response of "what do you want us to do about it?". I was about to walk out at that point.

Did not like the talk of taking industrial action around Xmas. From a 89er that is a no no at this point, in fact any point. There are plenty more ways to kill a cat then stuffing its arS% with icecream, so to speak, taking on extra fuel, calling in sick, you blokes know the drill. Otherwise I thought there was some constructive stuff, but getting a spin doctor is nbr one, (plenty of labor party hacks from the NSW govt are becoming available, plenty of experience there)! You have to get your case out to the public, who after all the hoohaa of last week, at last, Pilots are smelling like roses at the moment. Great time to put forward your case, evil management, etc de da de da etc, but we are here to get you safely to your destination de da de da etc, but the pay for the responsibility da de da etc etc etc. this needs to acted apon.
To me the best aspect of the meeting was the unity of unions representing airline staff. The speeches by the ALAEA President and the TWU rep left you in no doubt that we have to act together and go through the legal processes step by step so that there is no avenue for airline management to shaft us in the Industrial courts.
For the third meeting in a row, the AFAP failed to send a rep despite being invited to participate.

The problem is that it isn't happening. And every day that goes by the subject and, more importantly, the emotion continues to fade from the public conscientiousness. And another opportunity is lost.

Wow. Make more working at a servo or something.
Makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I see those 5 minute ads with dumb Australians all laughing happy having a great time with the heart warming music.
Old mate is making less than cabin crew and ground staff. What a joke.

It will be won (or lost) in the hearts and minds of the punters...
Spot on TG,
This battle will be won only if we can win the publicity battle.
I'm not sure why AIPA seems so publicity shy or unwilling to engage high powered spin doctors, PR companies and effective lobbyists...
As for AFAP... its extremely disappointing to see them so disengaged.
I will keep on writing to both, imploring them to act publicly with the expert help that can only come from Public Relations professionals.
