WTF, I thought that we were meant to be preparing for better times? Not good news the day before the election.

rumour is it CASA has some issues with Tiger bringing in any more a/c unless certain standards are fixed.
sounds to me like Tiger has its tail snipped. They are losing money, no matter what you hear

Is the Boss bailing out?
From the SMH 20 Aug
THE head of Tiger Airways, Tony Davis, has sold a large slice of his shareholdings in the budget airline, raising doubts about his confidence in the prospects of the business.
Just eight months after it was listed in Singapore, Mr Davis and two of Tiger's largest shareholders, Ryanasia and Indigo Partners, have sold almost 66 million shares - representing 12 per cent of the issued capital - for about $S125 million ($103 million).
Ryanasia is controlled by the Irish family who founded Ryanair.
The placement to institutional investors at $S1.90 a piece was at a 4 per cent discount to the airline's share price on Wednesday.
Tiger, which has nine aircraft operating within Australia, was unable to say yesterday how much each shareholder had sold.
Insiders said Mr Davis's decision to sell his shares did not instil confidence in the airline's longer-term prospects. Shares in Tiger fell up to 3.5 per cent in Singapore yesterday.
Before the latest placement, Ryanasia's stake was 11 per cent and Indigo's 14.6 per cent. Singapore Airlines' stake was diluted from 49 to 33 per cent in the market listing in January.
Tiger emphasised that Mr Davis still had 4 million fully vested share options and ordinary shares, while Indigo, a US private equity group, and Ryanasia remained substantial shareholders

Don't we just love rumour mills?
Apparently the aircraft has been pulled from Adelaide so they don't miss important financial $$$ with the VIC government going into Avalon.

Singapore's Tiger Airways axes flights due to pilot shortage
This is from a Chinese online newspaper.
Its kinda wierd that this occurs the same time as Tiger is axing Oz domestic flights
Singapore's Tiger Airways axes flights due to pilot shortage13:05, August 19, 2010
Singapore's Budget carrier Tiger Airways has axed flights in recent weeks due to a pilot shortage, local media reported on Thursday.
It canceled at least ten flights in the four days up to Wednesday, local newspaper The Straits Times reported.
One key cause of the shortage, likely to affect other airlines as well, is the strong recovery in the aviation industry.
Tiger has lost more than 20 of its pilots in a wave of resignations since June.
As airlines go on hiring sprees with the recent upturn, it has become a job hunter's market not only for flight crew, but also aircraft engineers and technicians.
Remuneration varies from airlines to airlines, but anecdotal evidence shows that Tiger pilots who have left are earning 30 percent more in their new jobs.
Aircraft maker Boeing's training arm, which runs 17 campuses globally, estimates that 448,000 new pilots will be needed in the next 20 years to support fleet growth and replace retiring pilots.
There are currently 170,000 pilots worldwide.

but where are the 10-15 aircraft a certain flight ops dept. manager was bragging about getting 9 months ago?
Tiger Airways Australia had to divert them back to Singapore and make up a nice story .
Story here Is the Tiger blinking? No its playing the slots – Plane Talking
Extract - The redeployment of the current fleet to fit in with previously announced new services from Melbourne’s Avalon airport means there will be two jets based there, another two at Adelaide and five at Melbourne’s Tullarmarine. In effect Adelaide and Tullamarine each loose one jet to support the new services from Avalon that were to have been carried in the jets that will instead carry punters from SE Asia cities to the casino in Singapore.

This is from an article printed today. I like the bit about no other airlines based in Adelaide! What about Cobham, Rex and Alliance, whom the latter may soon have 8 aircraft based there.

Spin doctors
So we are told that both MEL and ADL lose an aircraft to the newly created Avalon operation, and that the ADL - BNE and ADL - OOL routes were canned due to not being profitable. And, Tiger chooses to fly the routes which have the highest profitability, so therefore, they believe that ADL - Avalon is going to yield more $$$ than the QLD destinations! Excuse me while I choke!
