Qantas Intl Schedule Expands
"Apparently there is a rush on to get the right licences in the right ports and the jumbo is set for western skies as we speak.Maybe something to do with the World Cup,but also talk in Planning about scraping the A330 services on the PER-SIN run and combining them into a B744 run thru to LHR.And the A330 will be put on to other Asian routes."
Nice theory, except we now have domestic configured A330-200s with small galleys and no crew rest - again!
Most Asian routes need the full service.

From the Australian today, Allan Joyce,
It is pretty obvious loads are soaring in QF domestic, full in almost every sector. especially business class.
"We believe that at the end of this calendar year, the Qantas brand will become the most profitable carrier in the domestic market again," he said. "That's happened faster than we expected."
Nunc est bibendum
Taildragger, sadly, there is no doubt the product on the QF mini bus is better than on the 767. Notice they said upgrade of product though, not upgrade of aircraft type!

Busboy, I was talking about the classic. Anyway, one Int 744 flight a day to Europe through Perth does not a domestic service make. But it is good to see some competition to the myriad departures to Europe that the Middle Eastern and Asia carriers have each day out of there.
DirectAnywhere, the cost was to the brand with the serviceability problems of the classic. People were actively avoiding them, especially business people.

I asked a neighbour 2 weeks back about 'the airline' he being a 'senior manager' within marketing. This guy has only been at QF for 6 years but he said that: "the last 2 years have been a lot better than his 1st 4 years and that's because of Joyce but there's no vision in the place. We go to meetings and no one will suggest anything new, ask anything about possible expansions etc. Only new thing of interest was a new A380 ad coming up" (which I must admit looks pretty good with no youth choir).
Anyway, as he said there's no vision and I guess this is what you guys are saying regarding international expansion. A week ago we read that Continental are planning to fly non-stop Houston to Auckland, yesterday I read that Air NZ will start a Sydney Rarotonga direct service in July on a 4 month trial. So there's just 2 examples of someone out there having a go in the region.

.....you raise a good point 73-91 and probably another discussion topic.
We went through the "Mission Statement" era when Menandue and Tubby Ward were pulling the levers at QF. Sure we all gleefully attended the Spirit Workshops and agreed to be loyal to the Rat.
But 20 years on......I don't think many people would stomach some consulting wankers coming in with a new "Compass Heading/Mission mantra".
Your mate is right though.....many QF people are wondering around with blank stares and just going through the motions. Thats a legacy of the Dixon era and the constant bullying of some Managers who think that the Stick approach beats the Carrot approach any day
I am a bit of am optimist though......especially when you see some growth announcements. I reckon its time for AJ to take the gloves off and "have a go" !. Hell just take a look at the competition. BA are stuffed, Emirates so called- "service reputation" is slipping & Air NZ appear bold and brazen and kicking arse.
Come on AJ......take off those orange tinted glasses and give us a go.

Having lived in Europe for 12 months I have been surprised at the lack of QF advertising done here in Frankfurt. Everyday I catch the S Bahn and see ads for SQ, EK, CX, CSA, the all devouring Lufty but nothing from QF. SQ even advertise flights to the greatest country on earth via Singers!
So where do QF advertise?

Twas very rare to have less than 450 PoB (full was 467) on the aircraft. Both classes had inseat IFE (albeit fairly average) and full inflight service including meals and booze (important for the east coast FIFO!); yields were high.
Crikey! I 'magine the yields for a 450 seat 777-300!! Now thats makin' money!!

I guess they will throw one of the A380s with more seats on FRA when it arrives..... whenever that is. In the meantime they should supplement it with another service on peak days. A330?
