JQ were taking 2 A330's from the QF fleet as 2 new A330's arrived for QF.

I believe now that only 1 A330 is going to JQ and thus QF retain an extra.

Don't know if 1 extra is enough to cover NRT, MNL, HNL though.

Correct. EBP will now be coming to QF instead of JQ.

After making do with old aircraft for so long how about letting the parent airline getting both and more while they're at it.

Another idea would be to open up or restart the old HNL/SFO runs.God forbid you might even consider an onward connection to Dallas or Chicago.

That means expanding QF and that will probably never happen again.

Considering that not long ago the stated aim for J* was to get a fleet of 12 A330's as soon as possible; I find this development intriguing.

Is that still the plan? Maybe the premium class upturn is happening faster than expected? Good news anyway for QF pilots on min hours and assigned leave.

SYD-DFW via ?

What about 1 stop to DFW but not via LAX, SFO or HNL
Great Circle lookup shows that SYD-LAX is 7488 mi but NAN-DFW is 6625.

The American's love Fiji, they love all of those overpriced 5 Star resorts near Nadi. Gee, you could set up a 'golden triangle' for the cashed up Americans with say AKL & BNE with a partner like Air Pacific, then back on QF from NZ to OZ or make their own way to SYD if arriving in BNE, who knows, it might work???

Then back on the 1 stop SYD-DFW service, avoiding LAX but still partnering with AA from DFW to other points in the US of A.

But that won't happen - as per last line by RedTBar above.

CK, I believe that the extra A332's for JQ will be the Increased Gross Weight version that should start arriving later this year. These aircraft are planned to be operated by JQ Asia to Athens & Rome - the standard A332's don't quite have the payload/range figures for that operation.

Qantas is at present short of hulls....so where will these A330s come from?
The A330 freed up from NRT is going to NYC
The B744 will start operating SYD-NRT 6 times per week (+ A330 one per week) in July thus freeing up A333 capacity for SYD-HNL, SYD-MNL & PER-NRT ops. The AKL-LAX-JFK ops will be flown by A332's which previously operated to Mumbai but as that is now flown by A333's as an extension of the QF51/52 service through SIN, the A332 capacity is available.

There has to be a huge market for DFW - so many AA connectors through LAX only hope we could do DFW direct - do we have anything that could make it there non stop from Sydney? Perhaps a bit too far?
When the B744ER's were purchased, they considered using them direct SYD-DFW but that would require fitting a second "AUX" fuel tank thus causing 11 tonne restriction of the payload - this was assessed as uneconomical. Depending on the final payload/range figures of the B787-9, that type may be used to start the route.

Back to HNL

Just checked the QF web using the 1st of each month for the SYD-HNL sector.
May to Aug sees JQ 4 p/w & QF 3.

In Sept JQ goes to 5 p/w and QF stays at 3.
JQ will compete with QF each Wednesday

Then the JQ Wednesday service ends on the 27th October - BUT no increase in QF service to HNL? There is no change in aircraft type for the QF services though.
