Reverse Flight, thats exceptionally good advice and mostly common sense. Certainly having the person you are travelling with go through the scanner first and then keep an eye on the boxes makes a great deal of sense.

his passport was taken by an elderly lady of Indian extract. Possibly a mistake?
Probably not a mistake at all. That passport, being genuine, would be sufficient to open the doors for an entire family from India and it would be sold for a very large sum to the smuggling network. Good job that it was cancelled but that still may not be enough to stop it being used again, especially where the check is electronic.
