BA in system meltdown. QF affected.

It would appear the "work for nought" BA scrape for survival is flowing on to QF in the form of fare issues.

I did a fare construction today involving return LHR ex SYD with 6 internal Europe BA sectors. I did the QF model first. Minimum possible fare $6500.00 plus. Something rotten in Denmark, so did the search for best possible - all airlines - BA popped up at about $ 2700.00.

More herrings past use by.

Sectorised the QF and BA components and guess what? Qantas on one ticket and BA on a seperate ticket was even cheaper than the BA all the way quote.

I called a mate at QF HBA who did a run through Amadeus, the QF/BA Global Distribution System, and it costed out just fine with the QF longhauls.

Problem is that the combineability rules have not been relayed to Sabre, Galilleo and Abacus - systems that represent about 75% of the Agency systems and web search engines on earth.

Bottom line - lack of BA staff (or deliberate BA oversight) is taking QF out of the quoting system and feeding BA - why am I thinking oversight is the problem??

This is fine in professional Agencies, but in the hands of Blight Centre and the web engines that are almost certainly smarter than the average spotty commission driven wart on the industry in BC offices, QF does not even get a look in.

This is where the dollars come from for you good and true QF people. That is what puts the souls down the back and it is a glaring and dangerous hole.

Please mention this to someone who knows how to fix it, as it seems to be a system aimed at milking QF to the gain of BA.

We must protect the Rat from BA. they are obviously looking for a fall guy. We do not want shades of Ansett and NZ.

Best all

interesting little rant , but you have forgotten one thing , under the terms of the JSA revenue between Australia and Europe is pooled on QF/BA and split on a pro-rata basis according to capacity offered by each carrier . The matter of whether the itinerary is booked as QF or booked as BA is therefore revenue-neutral to QF .

That is indeed true Andrew, however 5% commission is payable if the whole thing is plated QF. 1% only is payable on the seperate BA Intra Europe component. Better for BA.

If it is sold on BA plate, then 5% is payable overall and BA do not have to wait for the money to be remitted through IATA once it is cleared by QF.

Not huge percentages, but significant when you take volume and time into the equation.

The JSA is one thing, but in this case QF is being stiffed - for turnover up front and use of revenue by BA's failure to correctly load fares.

Both lose out in a lot of cases as a fare search will pull a cheaper fare on AF/KL or another combination of Airlines.

Those dollars are gone forever to the group.

xcellent work EWL

been doing the same thing myself again this week and the data also points to the same outcomes.

Interestingly, adding to the mix is that one asian carrier is now pitching a higher secondary % to agents in key BA/QF markets.....a further multiplier.

Devil

Airtags

That Asian carrier that is chucking further flown revenue overides has obviously escaped me.

Please advise carrier - you have piqued my interest!

EK are paying 9% at source until 30 June, and have been able to make decent use of that!!

The same has been evident on the Pacific, with AA being cheaper on code share on Rat metal than the Rat themselves.

If you wonder why most male Travel Agents are grey, there is a glimpse of the reason.

So guys, without having any idea of what language your talking, it would seem that now is the perfect time to book that european holiday?

If so, how should I do it to get the best price?

Thanks,

UTR

Simple UTR - just call the loco Bloko on 1800 067-207 - this offer isn't available in stores!!!

There are definitely some short term cheapies about at the moment with reputable carriers, through disreputable Travel agents like me.

SIUYA

If you know what to look for, it sticks out like dogs goolies. Unfortunately the fare co0nstruction knowledge is being lost to automation and is totally lost in web engines. It would seem apparent that there is still room in the indusrty for the "old science" type stuff.

I am probably being burned in efigy in the halls of BA as we speak.

Thought it felt a little warm in here!!!

Best regards
