Strategic acquires Ozjet Airlines

29 June 2009

Strategic have announced today the purchase of Ozjet Airlines from administration.

Strategic gained the support of Ozjet staff and creditors on Wednesday last week, to purchase the company.

"We are extremely pleased to announce the purchase of Ozjet Airlines. It is a great outcome when you are able to not only ensure the payment of entitlements to staff, but also retain some of the existing employee base for future company operations. We are also thankful to the creditors who have supported our efforts in negotiation over the last few weeks" said Mr Michael James, Executive Director of Strategic.

It is intended that the change in ownership will have very little impact on the existing operations of the airline. Strategic looks forward to introducing an A320 aircraft to the Perth market on the Derby route by the end of September, in place of the currently chartered Fokker 100.

Mr James said, "We are very appreciative of the patience that many Ozjet customers and supporters have shown over this difficult time. They can now be assured that the services Ozjet has provided to date on the Perth to Derby route will continue to function as normal."

Well I guess when the operation is grounded there is little more impact that can happen to existing operations.

So what happens to the 732's, have they been purchased?

Australia's Strategic buys OzJet
By Leithen Francis

Australian start-up Strategic Airlines has bought Australian charter carrier OzJet, which went into voluntary administration in May.
Strategic CEO, David Blake, says "we entered into a deed for assessment from the administrators and it was voted on last Wednesday [24 June] and executed last Friday."
He says Strategic bought OzJet from the administrators because "it has one or two interesting routes in Western Australia [such as] Perth-Derby, which is a regular passenger transport route, that is doing quite well and is a protected route under the name OzJet."
The other reason it bought OzJet was because of its air operators certificate, confirms Blake, adding that it plans to operate Airbus A320s under the OzJet AOC starting around September.
Blake is familiar with OzJet because prior to joining OzJet he was OzJet's chief operating officer.
He says just before it went into voluntary administration in May, OzJet downsized to about 50 employees.
Strategic plans to retain 20-25 OzJet employees including most of the cabin staff, he adds.
OzJet was operating four Boeing 737-200s but these are excluded from the airline purchase, confirms Blake.
Strategic is also applying for Australian AOC in its own right and hopes to get it in September or October and use it for its Airbus A330, says Blake.
The carrier is leasing the A330 from Swiss International Air Lines and it is currently being worked on at Lufthansa Technik in the Philippines and is due to arrive in Australia on 6 July, he adds.
It is also in the market to lease an A320 for Australia because it has decided that the two A320s it has already secured on lease are to be stationed in France, says Blake.
The two A320s have French registration F-GSTR and F-GSTS while the A330 has Australian registration VH-SSA, he adds.
Strategic is also setting up in Europe because "the failures in Europe have left a bit of a hole," he says, referring to the collapse of airlines such as XL Airways.

No offence, but why to Strategic think they can do better in Europe? The reason to why many went bust was that there is too many charter companies!

Maybe Blakey and some of the newly acquired Ozjet management will feel more at home in the European environment, plus its a good excuse for duty travel and at the same time see the rels! Aren't WO'N and the Dragon Lady joining Strategic to weave their well tried and now proven strategy on how to make a good small airline????

Tasdevil the old B732s were not part of the deal. Nominally owned by Heavylift, having been acquired at a nominal price when NL bought Ozjet from Paul Stoddart. Then nominally leased back to Ozjet. Now permanently grounded due lack of engines, parts and maintenance.

So Strategic will base an A320 in Perth, on lease, to fly 3 or 4 services a week to Derby...seems a rather large aircraft for the route given the loads on this service normally. Ironic how we could see an A320 in Ozjet livery before Skywest.

HC, painting an N number on the tail won't make them flyable. If only the FAA were as slack now as they used to be, it would be fun to fuel 'em up and just blast off. Now the FAA is worse than CASA. They want all sorts of paperwork and they often ramp newbies at the first USA port of call.

Thumbs up Do Check

Messages sent to FAA and CASA regarding the "N" reported aircraft changes. It may be Q & A for CASA should they elect to allocate manpower to the task of "N" and other registered aircraft.

RP-C8016,RP-C8017,RP-C8019, RP-C8020, The following reported as "N" VH-VLH(N727HL),VH-OZD(N731HL),VH-OZX(N737HL),VH-OZU(N733HL) AND VH-OBN(N732HV)

Please, just inspect all Manuals, Aircraft Log Record (remember the spares certification) Crew Licences, Dangerous Goods and Aircraft procedures.

Good luck with the venture.

Strategic has a much better chance of making it than other operators struggling with debt from over priced purchases that could not have collateral and by buying an AOC and just adding a new type.

The melt down of consumer lending and sub-prime was coming for years; we all knew it! Now it's a time to invest in the recovery seeing as though we won't be paying rip-off prices.

Strategic could easily be the next "big" thing if they start out relatively small, develop the market and their reputation and grow at a controlled pace.

Conversley, I never thought OzJet would make it flying around the guzzlers.

Saw their A330 (VH-SSA) in Manila yesterday (3 July) looking like it had just come out of the paint shop.

Question Is he Getting out of Aviation

Is he Getting Out---- no way as Australia is a big country. Perhaps he has rolled over hundreds of persons, yet there are many more suckers to milk dry.

Forget any family involvement as they were milked dry some 5 years ago.
------------
Anyway if he goes you could bet CASA would throw a party at Rookwood or Waverley.

He is very lucky that his business associates are not Russian, they would take care of all outstanding issues.

Ref the aircraft for sale :- why would you advertise several aircraft for sale knowing full well that most would fail proper inspection.

Pity the authorities don't investigate further. say no more.

Word is she has dug her heels into office in MELB and although not getting paid, is in there as usual “looking busy while doing nothing”….She is ringing around OJ CC’s and asking if she can forward their resumes to Strategic for possible jobs…and then is asking them how they will vote in the upcoming meeting
can anyone tell me what ever happened to the FA mgr? has she boarded her broomstick back home yet?
I would solely blame the WO's, RH's and AC's in the company. They are so out of touch with their crew online.
si8877,

Unless you are one of the CC who have a track record for slandering your management team and co-workers and are indeed one of

those hard working cabin staff
then you have nothing to worry about.

Crew rest. is offline
