Final flight from Wigram

At 1730 this evening, two DC3s and a Harvard departed Wigram airfield for the final time.

The mist and drizzle over the field at the time was somehow rather fitting.

May Wigram's place in New Zealand aviation history never be forgotten.

RNZAF Wigram

I did my "Wings Course" at Wigram way back when on Harvards and Devons. It started me on an aviation career covering 35 years and counting and I look back on it fondly. May it be put to good use and the Museum is always worth a visit.

My wife and I visited Wigram couple of years ago. Fabulous place which we will never forget. We were lucky enough to be shown around by one of the vets who was a joy to be with.

tin: NZWG - Christchurch, NZ. But you knew that already, right?

Heathrow: Vets as guides are a feature of the museum. I'm pretty sure they do it voluntarily. Nice when you get a personal tour.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to go for a ride in the Harvard?

Just arrived back from CH after crewing the last flight out in ZK-DAK.

A really sad day summed up by someone who said

"Even the sky was crying"

As an Ozzie, even I can see that this is a terrible thing to have happen...

POINT COOK take note!!!!

Some fantastic shots here...

It's a cost share thing if you meant the Harvard... pm me.

Otherwise $90 for a half hour flight in the DC3.

And yep 'twas me.

Only $90 in cash, but then there's the enforced farm labour out in the back paddock

Wigram

I took my daughter and grandson to the final airshow a few weeks ago in Wigram. The thought that an airport with the history and possible commercial uses as Wigram should be shutdown to provide "housing lots" is truly revolting.

The short sightedness of the Ngai Tau "owners" is a travesty. How much does it cost to build a reasonable airport these days........$250 Million? $500 Million?
Then the resource consents? The land?

No lets sell plots of land to build spec homes!

This is dumb! no dumber than dumb!
