It has been moved because it contained material of a confidential nature, which may have left the originator vulnerable to legal action.

By all means discuss the goings on at the company, but please don't post anything of a "privileged" nature.

Please also consider the people affected.

SkyAir sackings spark engineers' threat

Posted Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:00pm AEDT

Aircraft engineers are threatening to take action against the Brisbane-based regional airline SkyAir World.
The privately owned company this weekend sacked a third of its workforce in a bid to remain viable, cutting services to Cairns and Cloncurry.
The company has offered to pay outstanding wages and redundancy entitlements in instalments from next month.
But Steve Purvinas from the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) says it is not good enough.
"It indicates to us that the airline is possibly on the brink of collapse and we're concerned that our members may not receive their entitlements at all," he said.
"At the moment the ALAEA is exploring a a number of options such as the workplace ombudsman, the Federal Court and the Industrial Relations Commission to make sure our members receive their full entitlements."

It gives me little satisfaction to say that 'I told you so' over a week ago and even less satisfaction to know that the promised progress payments on wages owing and redundancy payment in lieu of notice won't make it to the bank tomorrow, or ever.
One only has to look at the care that went in to crafting the redundancy letters with calculations and a payout schedule, itemised for each employee. Such a small HR section could not have produced such detail for so many people between a Friday and a Monday; hence my earlier accusation that some people at the top told blatant lies when they said all was well and that we would be paid on the Monday.
It is apparent that in the weeks leading up to the Tuesday when staff were told of the layoffs, a plan was hatched to include false promises in order to buy time against any whiff of insolvency. The vain hope was that if everyone swallowed this 'restructure plan' , a very large sum being held as deposit money for the NATO contract would be released.
If salary is in the bank tomorrow and again on 3rd March as per the schedule, I will unequivocally apologise for the above post on this forum.

Tidles, the tightrope you monitor (and walk) is well understood.

Confidential and privileged information has crossed my desk all too often but PPRuNe is NOT the place to out it.

It would seem as though discussion regarding SAW is possibly going the same way as happened to any mention of M@cair, AOPA and 1989.

The fact remains that there are serious questions being asked about SAW by both those directly affected by the current events and the industry at large.

It is understandable that some turn to the internet to not only seek information but to also vent their spleen about a matter that has a major impact on them.

Tidles, keep up the good work and you could possibly expect more dastardly tales of coniving ineptitude and untruths to come out of this.

All the flashing lights, bells and whistles a business do not necessarily make.

Good luck to those staff ignominiously but professionally shafted

Nothing much to add other than best wishes for those that are now jobless.
The mob I'm working for right now had a fair few people leave us for SAW, and with the current conditions I doubt we'll be in a position to take any back.

Agreed, losing a job pales compared with what has happened in the bushfires. But on the list of life's stressful times - after death, divorce, serious illness and loss of one's home, losing one's job is about number 5. Which may result any or all of the above other stressors occurring.
When running any business that employs people, directors have a moral responsibility towards seeing that staff are paid for services rendered. If staff have to be paid off for the wider good of the company, so be it; but 'paid off' is the operative phrase.

Lot of unhappy travelers at HIR today who were holding worthless SAW tickets and had to buy new tickets to get back on Solomons after being left stranded by SAW. Engineers tell me money owed to TOLL for 170 work so cowls have been refitted and it has been put out on the tarmac to await instructions from its owners. Has SAW stoped trading or are all the rumours wrong.

Queensland-based SkyAirWorld became the latest carrier to respond to the worsening economy when it announced on Wednesday it was grounding three of its five aircraft and axing 40 jobs.

The news that SkyAirWorld would limit its flying to two Embraer 190 jets came as Virgin Blue said it would cut capacity by 8 per cent and remove five aircraft from its domestic operations.

SkyAirWorld chief executive David Charlton said the airline was talking to lessors about new homes for its two ERJ-145 and E-170 jets.
He said the decision was necessary to ensure the carrier's long-term sustainability after the downturn in the mining industry, and general decline in overall aviation activity.

"As a result we've made some decisions to try and restructure the organisation for long-term health," he said.

Mr Charlton said the airline intended to continue contract flying in Queensland and Western Australia, where it recently won the contract to operate services between Cocos Islands, Christmas Island and Perth in April.

"I think regional aviation in Australia is about to become a last man standing, because of the challenges it faces ... relating to infrastructure and the regulator and being in business in these very tough economic times," Mr Charlton said.

Looks like some people in this world are still dreaming for Groundairworld to be flying soon around the world in A 380,B 777 and A 340....

and Timor Leste AUT ,the next Changi in the asia pacific.

the fact and truth is GAW lost every route they had,as well as every mining or charter contract, and thats why they are in this position today,

Bitter truth to swallow.

Very sad that lots of good hard working emplyees lost their jobs,
and still awaiting legal payouts.

Some of these people come from oversesa leaving good jobs and careers.

We can blame the recession, and world global meltdown, but we cant blame
anyone for not holding on contracts and routes,

then it boils down to why were they losts, and the answer is what every
experienced airline person will tell you is

Dispatch Reliability,
On Time Performance,
Minimal AOG situation and
Good Fleet Technical Management.

Reason,
GAW engineering was run like a backyard joint,
i can see people getting upset now......fair enough,

it had no control of the day to day maintenace of the fleet,

a few example,

they failed last years C**A audit,
and work was done on their whole fleet since 2007 with
outdated data.....emails to all engineers....

good pilots and engineers have collected since then hundreds of photocopies of documents, emails, letters and faxes.

All wiil be revieled in time and circumstances.
For those getting upset and impatient, just take a deep breath.

Dont worry if you did the right thing.

Good professionals will always find another good job.

The above from Mr Charlton made me remember a saying a very good friend of mine picked up in the Army.

If you can't handle it, PARK it.

I think it fits perfectly.
