Even Qantas in-house media is sometimes wrong
We often complain about the inaccuracy of the mainstream media when they 'get it wrong' on technical matters (and not so technical matters) but I thought that at least Qantas would get it right in their staff paper "Qantas News". In the current issue there's a story about the special flights to Phuket to rescue travellers stranded there after the recent political protests. In the story there's this little gem: "After finishing their patterns in Australia, they were patched to Singapore...............".
Maybe the work experience kiddies who now infest Qantas are reinventing the terminology of the industry but I have to ask why do we expect so much of the lay media?
I wonder if high-speed tape was used in the patching?

Yes, every now and then the powers that be "Phuket up", don't they.
Ah yes, the Good Old Days when people in airlines who were allowed to comment publicly knew WTF they were talking about.
