QFLink New Destinations?
Heard a rumour that the mighty QFLink (Not NatJet) will be servicing new destinations like Gove, Darwin and Alice. This seems pretty far fetched for a Dash-8. Anyone heard anything?
Bottums Up
"Alice TWR, Qlink Deltas, two DH8 in company for Darwin, request clearance"
Deafstar 3 sectors today, 268 pax, 54/98/111. 1850 nm in 5.3 block hours, cruising @ M0.77. The DH8-400 is quick but not that quick for legs of 700 to 1000 nm, and won't carry the current loads without flying in tandem.
ps, heard nothing & NJS has a contract for 11 x 717 until 2012.

It won't be done in Dash 8's but they could move the jets to Sunstate. QF own the 717 and lease them out to NJS to operate so it would just be a matter of moving the contract over.
grrowler,
From memory I believe that it is a figure on par or larger than the initial figure agreed to by the Jetstar pilot group for BASE pay for the same machine.
Not having a go at them at all, and am more than happy to be wrong.

Meanwhile back in their own backyard MacA-- are said to be starting up a Brisbane / Emerald service and a Middlemount service.

Besides, I don't think CC could compete with QLinks 4 x Q400 return flights a day. (ie. 288 seats each direction)

Latest rumour is QF may absorb the NJS 717 crews & AOC into the Qlink system as a seperate operation like Sunnies & Eastern.
Destinations & Route structure kept basically the same.

Vincent Aviation operate a B1900 between Groote and Cairns I believe once per week, on top of their more regular services between Darwin and Groote. If it can be done to Groote in a B190 why not to Gove for Qlink (just a bit further north) in a DH8D?
Why not a seminole you could use one of them as well?
A Dash 400 is possible, but they would have to increase frequency to carry the numbers.
The 717 which carries 115 pax is generall always full. The Dash would need to fly twice as often to accommodate the same pax.
Then the mine management more than likley want a jet service. 51 minutes Darwin-Gove. 1hr and 20 I think Gove-Cairns.

Its a strong rumour.
Maybe a pairing with Middlemount.

And where did you hear that? (Although I for one would be happy for it to be TRUE!)

What about GLT ?
What about QFLink running 717s BNE-GLT when (if) GLT gets it's upgrade next year ? The locals and fifo are hoping VB will start up after the upgrade. If so, QFLink would need to do something !

Where should Q'link operate to?
Kiwi, QLink's opposition is a step ahead of them, and using ex QLink, REX and M*Air crew to operate their aircraft. ML-LAX might be a bit far for the Q400 (even with ferry tanks) Particularly when they can't use max speed cruise due to ongoing reliability issues with the PW's. Nonetheless, with training ongoing, the opposition are capable of not only impinging on QL's traditional markets, but expanding the scope of the whole operation.
How's Kumar going to get out of this one, when nobody wants to work for him?
