I read this in Australian. Has it been confirmed yet?

The article in The Australian briefly refers to the closure of the Qantas pilot base in Cairns, not the Jetstar one.

Jetstar flying into and out of Cairns continues to expand, as do the number of pilots based there.

Until they destroy the last of the Japan tourism market (like they did for Osaka and Nagoya) and then the Cns basing is done as well

The QF mainline base is closing so that pilots who undercut them can expand. Thats the reality

A touch grumpy aren't you Mohikan?

I have some Qantas shares and am intrigued at the thought that my retirment will be less well provided for than it might have been because Qantas deliberately (by action or neglect) chose to "destroy" markets.

If you have proof let me know so I can go to the ASC or the next shareholders meeting

So mohican , at least you're saying that AA decided to undercut their own crowd. Good for you.

Flyingins,

Yes, correct. Now that I read it again. The english language shouldn't be that hard to interpret. I hope not too many people are affected by the closure.

Sherm.

Jetstar international is all about Dixons 'vision' for low cost labour.

Nothing more nothing less.

It is massively cross subsidised by mainline. A good example is recently I operated a service to Honolulu which was supposed to be flown by JQ.

The JQ manager at SIT advised me that all costs associated with the replacement aircraft operation were borne by QF mainline. Imagine then, what would happen if they would have had to put these pax on other carriers if the cross subsidisation was not available. I am sure Air Canada or Hawaiian would not carry JQ pax free of charge.

Next time you are at SIT you will notice that most of the JQ check in staff are QF staff. JQ doesnt pay for this either.

Maybe you should go to the next QF group AGM though. You wont get anywhere with your questions, but it will be a good laugh for everyone else there.

Mohikan,

Don't let the truths get in the way of this nice little rumour board. Wouldn't want to burst anyone's bubble now would we?

I'm sure our full fare J class pax enjoy having a jetstar passenger sit next time them and brag about how little they have paid for the seat. Dear Geoff - please explain to me why a Qantas Frequent Flyer doesn't get upgraded ahead of this 1* low yield pax???

Bye Geoff, I'm reaaaaaaaally going to miss you.
