Qantas' Borghetti Webchat
John Borghetti is web chatting to people live at the moment - qantas.com/media. Follow the links. Interesting info on A380 future destinations, CC make up an premium economy, 747-8 & 777 is all within it.
He is answering questions from the general public! Quite amazing really, but certainly a step in the right direction for Qantas to get in touch with its customers.

- A380 eventually to HKG & SFO
- All cabin crew to wear new uniform begininning Oct 20.
- A380 fares will be the same as 747 fares, except for First Class
- A380 will be doing promo tours to BNE, SYD, MEL, ADL, PER, during October
- Rumour, unconfirmed that the A380 will do a MCG flyover oon grand final day
- Full internet suite will be available for all passengers on A380 by late 2009.

Sorry mate! Tongue in cheek.....
I must admit I don't find new cabin crew uniforms, A380 fares, possible MCG flyovers etc. all that interesting.
I'd be more interested to know whether he mentioned future fleet plans, future potential, changes to the business model/ plan that have been mooted for nearly 3 months now, any mergers/ acquisitions that the company is looking at rather than the fluffy, peripheral stuff that seems to be all the spindoctors will allow to be released these days.
Thanks for the info. Cheers.

Sorry for the confusion.

Borghetti changes his Mind
Last year at the Redfern Love In come strategy day Borghetti indicated that the A380 would go to JNB...and now its SFO.
The Aircraft is designed specifically for high volume traffic routes...LAX LHR JNB...SFO wouldnt have the loads to warrant the A380 surely?

Except in Qantas configuration!
It only packs a few more than a 744.

Where is Cal Aminity anyway? Didn't the bloke get promoted after putting a RB211 into reverse at SYD. Perhaps that where I went wrong, I only ever went forward.

Mrpaxing,
The one I saw in our system is 747P(new) 14P 64J 40W 187Y = 305.
But assuming your figures are correct, then it highlights my point even more...ie that the A380 is a significant increase in capacity over the 747.

Not that many more in an A380.
Old 2 class 744 : 66/356
New 2 class 744 : 56/366 (skybed)
Including infants and crew, I've had 460 on a 2 class 744 before. I'm sure the Classic boys could beat that easily. So the way Qantas have configured the 380, its not that much more capacity wise. In fact, bugger all.

747P new 14PC 64 JC 32 WC 187YC
380...14PC 72JC 32 WC 332 YC
I would have thought that given the extra revenue from JC and premium YC that those classes would have been larger. With only 8 more JC seats the main difference between the two aircraft is the larger YC config.
Perhaps it is a weight issue with the JC seats but still I would have thought more JC or even WC and a reduction in YC would have been on the cards....especially on the LA runs.
I wonder whether QF will change the config as they did with the 747 as time goes on with the lure of extra revenue proving irresistible.I also hope that the procedures for WC (who thought of that acronym..looks like Water Closet) is a bit better thought out than on the 744.
Does anyone know how much extra cargo the Dugong carries than the 744?
Also is there going to be a Pacific config and a Kangaroo config with the flying Brioche as there is with the 744.
